R&B Fridays: Episode 106

Some really interesting remixes this week, with the works of R&B poster boys Drake and Frank Ocean undergoing treatment from their peers. Of course, there’s a sprinkling of original material too with a range of styles represented.

A fair bit to recap on from the week gone by: a James Blake and Drake mashup mixtape, a very enjoyable R&B throwback from will.i.am, strong slow jam from Lloyd’s upcoming album, brand new material from Drake, and for some reason a video for Enrique, Usher and Lil’ Wayne’s collab and Britney’s latest single. R&B Fridays: Episode 103

Better late than never eh? There are genuine reasons, but forget all of that rubbish: it’s here now, and that’s what counts.

No recap this week, so there’ll be none of your time wasted up here, and instead you can get to clicking below and grabbing new music from Akon, Lloyd and more.

To quote the mighty Brick Tamland, ‘OK, let’s go!’.

R&B Fridays: Episode 96

Plenty of new material this week, in what has been a very active week for the R&B and pop scene. Well, that’s probably a half-truth as there’s only really the one post to recap on from this week’s posts, with the official visuals for Nikki & Rich’s breakout single with Fabolous surfacing.

Very interesting lineup in this week’s episode, with man-of-the-moment Frank Ocean lining up alongside such current luminaries as Chris Brown, Trey Songz and many more. No throwback this week as there has been quite a chunk of new material to get through, but there’s lots of good stuff to get into regardless. Click below to collect your winnings.

R&B Fridays: Episode 81

Will R&B Fridays ever be on time? That’s the question.

I’ve more than compensated though, throwing in almost 20 tracks for you to enjoy this week. There’s no skimping on the big names either, as there are some strong contributions from some of the bigger stars in the R&B/pop world. No real recap this week as the music industry has all but shut down, though the Alicia Keys version of Devil In A New Dress is a must-download.

Taio Cruz and Travie McCoy-Higher Video

Looks like this was more than just an everyday remix, as Taio picks this version as his US single, leaving the Kylie version for the European markets.

The video isn’t bad, and Taio plays it safe with a video that will be digested easily by the mainstream.

Interesting (or cringeworthy, depending on where you stand) that Taio seems to have a strong resemblance to Usher in his mannerisms and general demeanour here, which may be a conscious decision to give him a more universal appeal. Audio for this is here.

R&B Fridays: Episode 75

A more digestable episode this week, which makes a nice change for us all having had a few extended instalments in recent weeks.

Outside of this episode, it’s been a fairly quiet week for R&B, with just the three notables: a video for Rihanna and Drake’s collaboration, new music from UK upcomer Talay Riley, and the latest drop from Trey Songz’s upcoming mixtape.

Click below for the 75th instalment of R&B’s favourite weekly episodical.

Lots of mainstream stuff this week, alongside a couple of surprise additions from the hip-hop world and the celebrity world.

R&B Fridays: Episode 71

Stacked episode this week, with some huge mainstream singles alongside great material from underappreciated artists. Quality wise, it’s one of the strongest R&B Fridays of recent months for sure: one of those where you could easily grab everything on offer.

The recap: Mastered version of Lloyd’s latest, Willow Smith’s debut video, Ne-Yo covering an MJ classic, Rihanna’s newest video, and finally the anticipated video for Chris Brown’s new single.

Tinchy Stryder/Taio Cruz – Second Chance

Is this as good as Take Me Back? Probably not. Is this going to be a smash it in the charts? You can stake your life on it. This is the second single from Tinchy’s upcoming Third Strike album, so expect a video for it shortly.

I’ve only just realised (whilst writing this post) that this track is basically a sequel to Take Me Back, seeing as the chorus reads “I can’t believe I’ve got a second chance at love“. I’ve yet to decide whether that’s a cool concept or a cringe-worthy one (leaning towards the latter). It is a pretty good song though, but I get the feeling I’ll be getting sick of this when it’s on the radio/music channels constantly. Download link below.

Newcomer: Kid*Malcolm

It’s been a while since we’ve introduced you to a new rapper, so let’s kick Monday off with one. First off, loving that artwork! That kid’s smile is ridiculously infectious!

The music: nice mix of stuff. For those looking to be eased in, the addition of a verse to Taio Cruz’s Like A Star will be digestable, and is a good introduction as the verse touches on a range of topics and has a decent style/speed of flow. The 4 Mins To Save The World Freestyle displays many of the aforementioned attributes but for a more extended period, and with more variety in the delivery. Wanna B Down is probably my favourite of the 3, as I’m liking this soulful beat and the slowed down flow brings out Malcolm’s wordplay a little better. Plenty of potential here, could be one to watch.

R&B Fridays: Episode 51

Good amount of stuff in here for your enjoyment, without swarming you with too many tracks. As ever, there’s a lot of variety with some upcomers, newcomers and established artists all contributing this week.

Couple of R&B posts this week you may have missed: the final version of Johnta Austin’s Close Your Eyes, and the official video for The-Dream’s Make Up Bag. After those treats, click on for some more.

R&B Fridays: Episode 47

Even after letting loose of 3 Bruno Mars-related goodies in the last 24-hours, this may as well be R&B Fridays: Bruno Mars edition. A bunch of unreleased Bruno material leaked last weekend (he has 11/20 tracks in here!), and the sheer quality of it makes it dominant in this episode. Make sure you check out the amazing track from his upcoming EP beforehand.

Good material from a range of other artists too, including Ciara and The-Dream. I never say this on any of my posts because I don’t want to ‘force it’, but I genuinely think you guys should be looking to grab everything in this week’s episode, such is the quality.

I’m really proud of this week’s episode, as it’s absolutely packed with playlist dominators, and the only way to do justice to these tracks was to spend time on the reviews: make it worth my time and click on.

R&B Fridays (on a Saturday): Episode 45

Sorry for the delay guys, as you know we were hacked on Friday night so I couldn’t get this out.

A nice even 20 tracks of new stuff for you this week, and lots of variety in there too in terms of styles and artists. Probably leaning more towards well-known artists this week, although there are still a couple of newbies for you to start getting into.

The quality is really high in this one, so be sure to give most/all of it a go. I’ve kindly weeded out most of the rubbish stuff, irrespective of artist calibre: I’m feeling ruthless! (Grr, roar etc)

Taio Cruz and Ludcaris-Break Your Heart (Remix) Video

Visuals for the official remix to Taio’s ubiquitous track. Audio can be swacked from here if you missed it first time around.

I liked the remix, and I’m reliably informed that the video has some nice eye candy too, although I haven’t watched it yet. Potential all-round win.

R&B Fridays (on Saturday): Episode 28

You thought I’d forgotten? Shame on you. I’m allowed a day off for Christmas.

The last R&B Friday of 2009 is packed to the rafters, with 21 (!!) tracks from a glut of good names. Beyoncé (with a Ne-Yo assist) anchors the bunch with a surprisingly high number of tracks in this one, and there are of course many other superb artists waiting for your attention after the click.

Break Your Heart Remix

taio
The official remix to Taio’s smash hit Break Your Heart has none other than feature-killer Ludacris on guest duty. Surprised this has come out so long after the original’s release, but there we are.

The original was a pretty decent, catchy R&B/pop affair and adding a Luda verse is only ever a good thing. He delivers a decent intro, and comes in with a pretty pacey verse compared to his regular, much slower delivery. Good verse though, and I’ll definitely be playing this one in place of the original.

Taio Cruz

taio
This new track by Taio Cruz has an electro vibe to it, which is different to what you’d normally hear from him. I’ve only listened to it a couple of times and I’m a little unsure as to whether I actually like it or not, it’ll no doubt be a hit either way. Go get the track below:
