R&B Fridays: Episode 103

Better late than never eh? There are genuine reasons, but forget all of that rubbish: it’s here now, and that’s what counts.

No recap this week, so there’ll be none of your time wasted up here, and instead you can get to clicking below and grabbing new music from Akon, Lloyd and more.

To quote the mighty Brick Tamland, ‘OK, let’s go!’.

R&B Fridays: Episode 84

No recap this week thanks to a temperamental hard drive, but R&B Fridays actually makes it out on a Friday for the second consecutive week, which is a pretty big victory.

Lots of remixes and rappers popping up this week, with some huge names coming through with some very unexpected pop and R&B remixes. More than enough original material too though, making this a very diverse episode that’ll satisfy the vast majority of you grubby little folk.

Click on and let me be the Snoop to your Cameron, though R&B/pop probably isn’t the same as marijuana…probably.

R&B Fridays: Episode 74

Bumper episode this week, with 20 tracks making the cut. It’s been a pretty busy time for R&B, hence I’ve let plenty of big R&B/pop tracks loose early this week.

The recap: Drake’s full version Fall For Your Type, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj’s first collaboration, a diverse track from Christian Rich, Trey Songz and Keri’s remix of a Dirty Money track, the final version of a great Lloyd track, and some ‘new’ Michael Jackson music.

A lengthy catchup, and it’s followed by a big episode: click below to get involved.

Rock City-No Days Off [Mixtape]

Avid fans of R&B Fridays will definitely heard of this duo, Rock City. A talented duo they are too.

Here’s their new mixtape, which judging by the material they’ve been putting out over the last 18 months, I fully expect this to be great.

Props to 2DopeBoyz for the link, click here to download this mixtape.

Tracklisting is available by clicking below.

R&B Fridays: Episode 57

Apologies for the delay, I’ve been busy today. Not only that, but narrowing this edition to 24 tracks was a hard task – I’ve had to cut out tracks that would have easily made the last two episodes! I’d recommend you download every one of these songs, you could easily make this your very own R&B playlist and not skip a single track.

A lot of new artists this week, with only a couple of notable star names, click on to get these gloriously rich tracks, you won’t be disappointed by what you hear.

R&B Fridays: Episode 56

After the success of last week’s R&B Friday, I’ve once again picked up Ajay’s mantle this week and have for you another quality episode.

Here we have for you some big names in Ciara, Usher, JLS, Chris Brown, Keri Hilson, Omarion and we also have for you some newcomers. Up and coming regulars of this weekly feature like Jackie Boyz & Rock City also make an appearance, as you’d expect by now.

So click on for a load of tracks that will keep you entertained until your next scheduled fix!

Edit: I’ve since received the official album version of the new Usher track (with a different, new Pitbull verse) so come inside and grab the even higher quality one.

R&B Fridays: Episode 55

With Ajay currently incarcerated in some grotty South African prison, your weekly R&B fix has been left with me to try and fill. Now I may not have anywhere near the amount of knowledge with this genre, I can however appreciate a good R&B song.

I’ve sorted through over 50 R&B songs over the last week and have narrowed it down to the best 24 and for that reason you shouldn’t at all be dissuaded from clicking on. We have some real gems for you, from the big names, to many a newcomer. Click that red text to find out whether I’m true to my word, or whether I’ve completely ballsed this feature up….(now that’s pressure!)

Rock City Remix Drake’s Find Your Love

Rock City always do a great, great job on their remixes and this is absolutely no exception. This sort of beat is perfect for these guys with their R&B/reggae/hip-hop fusion style, and this is a really enjoyable remix. Definitely comes close to the superb original, and I can’t imagine there being too many better remixes of Find Your Love than this.

R&B Fridays (on a Saturday): Episode 45

Sorry for the delay guys, as you know we were hacked on Friday night so I couldn’t get this out.

A nice even 20 tracks of new stuff for you this week, and lots of variety in there too in terms of styles and artists. Probably leaning more towards well-known artists this week, although there are still a couple of newbies for you to start getting into.

The quality is really high in this one, so be sure to give most/all of it a go. I’ve kindly weeded out most of the rubbish stuff, irrespective of artist calibre: I’m feeling ruthless! (Grr, roar etc)

R&B Fridays: Episode 42

Sorry for the delay, but this was a hard episode, a busy day, and there were upload problems! There are 149 tracks in this, but I’m not going to lie and pretend I’ve listened to them all because I haven’t. The difficulty comes in figuring out the best way of shoehorning them all into one episode: I’ve opted to split up the stuff in .zip file ‘packs’ for artists who had 10+ songs, instead of doing part 2, 3 etc.

Whilst that should work for most, some of you are backwards so I’ve made a mini-tutorial on how to use .zip/.rar files here (Office 2003 or older? Click here). The things we do for you.

Rock City and Jim Jones Remix Drake’s Over

In 2 seperate remixes, of course.

I’ve only given each a quick listen due to time constraints, but they both sounded alright with Rock City’s probably edging it, although that’s probably due to my bias toward their music. Worth checking out both though to form your own opinion, and expect there to be a load of remixes of this track over the coming weeks.

R&B Fridays: Episode 37

There are some utterly awesome tracks in this episode, and I have no qualms with name-checking the new Janet Jackson track as the definite highlight of this episode. Of course, the rest is very good too, but that track is sweet.

Click on for new music from Ne-Yo, Mario and more.

R&B Fridays: Episode 33

Similar to last week’s episode, this one contains a nice blend of big names, up-and-comers and some that we (I) haven’t heard from in a while.

We’ve dropped some R&B-related goodies throughout the week too, be sure to scroll down a couple of posts and check out the video for Usher’s lead single from Raymond vs. Raymond. When you’ve done that, scroll back up and enter the R&B room.

An Interesting Bit Of History on Drake's Forever

I noticed something very strange a while back. My music library was on shuffle, and a song called Bring It Back by Kardinal Offishall featuring Rock City came on. Nothing weird there, until I heard the beat: The very same beat used for Drake’s super-collabo Forever. Now, I bet you’re thinking ‘so what? loads of people freestyled that beat’. Right, but wrong. This track was from early October 2008.

The original version of Forever (with Lil’ Wayne/Nut Da Kid) was on a November/December 08 mixtape, and the final version was August 09.  A bit of research showed me that other sites believed it to be produced by Konvict, despite production credits on Drake’s version going entirely to Boi-1da. I haven’t seen anyone else bring this up, and I might be late on this but it was just by sheer coincidence this popped up (about 2 months ago…I forgot to put it up!), and it seemed worth informing you all!

R&B Fridays (on Saturday): Episode 28

You thought I’d forgotten? Shame on you. I’m allowed a day off for Christmas.

The last R&B Friday of 2009 is packed to the rafters, with 21 (!!) tracks from a glut of good names. Beyoncé (with a Ne-Yo assist) anchors the bunch with a surprisingly high number of tracks in this one, and there are of course many other superb artists waiting for your attention after the click.

Plenty of music this week from a nice mixture of current mainstream artists, and future stars. Keeping it varied with the styles too, as there’s some slower stuff and some of a higher tempo, there’s something for everyone after the click.

My bad, things got a bit out of schedule yesterday and I didn’t get time to put this up. Ah well, it’s here now. Usher and R. Kelly headline this episode, and with Ne-Yo, Alicia Keys, Jason Derulo and more following up, you know this a good episode. Big names and big tracks after the click.

No matter what anyone says, Kels’ is still one of the best voices in R&B. The picture here is the artwork for his upcoming untitled album.

The tracklist can be found after the click, as can the video for the lead single from the album, Number One featuring Keri Hilson. It’s a good track from Robert, and Keri also adds a lot to it.
