Statik Selektah-Extended Play (Full Album Stream)

statik
With an incredible number of collaborations, joint albums, productions for other artists and much more under his belt, one of hip-hop’s hardest working men is gearing up to release his 5th solo studio album next Tuesday (18th).

It’s been fun watching Statik’s reputation grow from a bubbling-under producer to one of hip-hop’s premiere acts behind the boards, and it appears most of the genre feel the same way; features are beyond plentiful here, with appearances from Raekwon, Joey Bada$$, Black Thought, Talib Kweli, Blu, Joell Ortiz, Mac Miller, Flatbush Zombies, Bun B, Prodigy, Action Bronson and many, many more in what is a fantastically-stacked lineup. Of course, there are several producers/DJs who tend to get a slew of guest spots on their albums (Khaled, Drama etc.) but given their tendency to hire predominantly mainstream or ‘pop rappers’, it’s refreshing to get Statik projects that are generally full to the brim with MCs that do the genre justice. Stream the full project over at NPR below, and be sure to support next week if you’re a fan.

Curren$y-Priest Andretti (Mixtape)

Surely, Curren$y has to be regarded as one of hip-hop’s hardest workers. He seems to churn out projects of good quality at a rapid rate, and to top it off this 14-track effort is only really a prelude to another collaborative project with Wiz Khalifa. Imagine what his workrate would be if he wasn’t high all of the time?

Features are fairly minimal here, and rightly so ahead of what I’m sure will be a packed lineup on the Wiz tape. Appearances from his Jet Life labelmates, as well as Noreaga, Styles P and King Chip (of course, the recently rebranded Chip Tha Ripper) are those that make the cut, and I’m sure Spitta’s fans will have no problem with that minimalised lineup. Free stream and grab below.

Noreaga ft. French Montana & Joell Ortiz–Sun Tzu (Clean)

This has club banger wrote all over it. Noreaga teams up with French Montana and Joell Ortiz to give us Sun Tzu, named after the famous Chinese military general (that’s as much of a history lesson as you’re likely to get from me!).

As for the track itself, lyrically it doesn’t really offer up anything special, but with a beat like this you don’t need it to. It’s all about the thumping bass and the catchy hook (I’m going to be sat here all night aawwwoooooo’ing now). When Joell jumps on, the track improves tenfold, though I’m not really a massive Noreaga fan so I may be being a little biased here. Definitely one to be played at full volume.

N.O.R.E.-Don’t Know What To Do [Big Pun Dedication]

This was actually made by Noreaga 10 years ago, but he never released it, so that Cuban Link’s own tribute song wasn’t overshadowed.

Glad this has finally seen the light of day, I’m a big fan of genuine dedication records like this, which often reflect real vulnerability in a rapper that is refreshingly honest.

DJ Envy-Lookin Like Money ft. Jim Jones, N.O.R.E., Maino & Styles P

This is one of the best posse cuts I’ve heard in quite a while. A beat that would sound great in your car and an auto-tuned hook that is nothing particularly special, but still does the job of getting stuck in your head.

Oh, and four rappers who are all renowned for their impeccable flows, fondness of money and hard-hitting lyrics.

J. Cardim, Ol' Dirty Bastard and N.O.R.E.

A line-up to set Murray’s heart racing, hopefully Cardim provides a nice beat for the rhymes from two heavy-hitters. As you can guess, I’ve not listened to this yet but Cardim has spun up some gems recently so I don’t expect this will let us down.

Capone-N-Noreaga - My Attribute [Video]

I’m predicting that The War Report 2 (out today) is going to do three or four times the numbers it would have done were it not for Rae’s evident insistence on some serious social media / viral marketing. I mean, I literally cannot turn on my Mac without seeing CNN somewhere. This isn’t a bad thing. It’s great to see someone still representing QB whilst P’s locked up and Nas is off on his little reggae jaunt.

Anyway, visuals for My Attribute which is a bit of a banger but perhaps not the strongest on the album.

Capone-N-Noreaga / Nas - With Me

Like Indi said about the Ricky Ross LP, this is probably the last leak we give you from CNN’s upcoming The War Report 2.

Arguably one of the most anticipated tracks from the album sees Nas teaming up with his fellow Queensbridge MC’s.

Interestingly, from what I’ve read elsewhere, people have said this collaboration feels somewhat forced and it almost sounds as if Nas emailed his verse rather than actually hooking up in the studio. Shame if true. See what you think.

Quick Blast: Capone-N-Noreaga

This track first appeared on CNN’s Camouflage Season mixtape which you can download for free here.

This morning, a version with executive producer Raekwon has surfaced so I’ve uploaded both versions for you to enjoy.

This is the kind of material which CNN and Rae are putting out recently which really restores my faith in old school hip-hop. They have even managed to get Fat Joey Crack spitting his Jealous Ones Envy steelo.

Peter Rosenberg and Cypress Hill-The Uprising (Tribute Mixtape)

Interesting one to kick off your day, and I’m quite looking forward to giving this a listen. A good group of decent artists pay homage to Cypress Hill, including Asher Roth, Styles P, Sheek Louch, Redman and buzzing man of the moment Yelawolf (amongst others). Should be a fairly entertaining listen, and includes some of Cypress Hill’s classics in there too.

DJ Kay Slay & 25 Rappers on 1 Track!

I didn’t know who to pick for the image, so please enjoy this dog in scuba gear.

25 rappers, I kid you not. So many in fact, I couldn’t add them all into the song title in iTunes! I’ve listed them below, and they can also be found in the ‘description’ section of the track.

Didn’t See This Coming

kid-cudi
N.O.R.E., best known for his early 00′s hit Nothin’, has recently collaborated with Kid Cudi. This is definitely an unlikely duo, but the track is decent. It’s nothing mind-blowing, but it’s definitely likeable and will probably grow on me. Download it here:
