John Mayer-Paradise Valley (Full Album Stream)

john-mayer-paradise-valley
Paper Doll was a great jump-off point for this album, and with its release only a week away, Mayer lets the full LP out for your streaming enjoyment.

His previous album, Born and Raised, was a little disappointing in honesty and certainly didn’t match the quality of the two albums prior to that. The aforementioned single provided more than a glimmer of hope for this one, whilst an appearance from Frank Ocean also offers plenty of promise, and for those of a mushy nature there’s even a collaboration with his on-again off-again female companion Katy Perry. Always a confident move letting your album out a week early, and you can head below to stream the LP on iTunes before your purchasing decision next week.

Katy Perry-Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) Video

I don’t particularly like her music, but one thing I’ve always genuinely liked about Katy Perry is her sense of humour/willigness to make a fool of herself. Here she channels Ugly Betty with a brace-heavy appearance, and combined with a nerdy persona makes for quite entertaining video. Not least because no matter what she’s wearing, it’s difficult to deny she has a fantastic body.

However, that’s not even the highlight. Music’s shining light, the paragon of virtue and generation-defining Rebecca Black makes an appearance! It’s always special to see one of the all-time greats, and she appears to have grown up somewhat. Also, note the cameo from the legendary Kenny G. Noted it? Good. Worth a watch for a bit of light-hearted entertainment, and will probably end up being a summer hit.

Katy Perry-E.T. ft. Kanye West [Video]

Visuals for Kanye and Katy’s pop collaboration, and with a title like E.T. the video was always going to be sci-fi themed. I did fear that they’d make this video pretty cheesy, but thankfully I was wrong! The CGI effects look great and it makes for an interesting video to watch. You can’t say that much about the large quantity of pop videos out there.

Alarmingly Katy Perry looks quite frightening for the majority of this video too. Having said that, in the final scene she looks weirdly hot.

That’s a nice cue for me to shutup! Grab audio from here.

R&B Fridays: Episode 88

A few interesting remixes this week, with over a third of this week’s tracks being of the remix variety. Other great tracks in there too, making this an R&B Friday that you’ll forgive for being a little late to the party.

Unlike recent weeks, there’s a pretty big recap on this week’s notable R&B/pop events: Yasmin previewed her new single, Tank came through with a new video, Timbaland’s #TimboThursdays rolled on, Trey Songz released the Love Faces video,  Miguel and Gilbere Forte combined for a fantastic effort, Diddy’s Dirty Money trio released an official mixtape, last week’s notable Grammy performances, Bruno Mars’ Grenade getting the Lil’ Wayne remix, and finally Erin Christine’s fantastic performance of Naked. All worth checking out, and more worth your time after the click below.

R&B Fridays: Episode 81

Will R&B Fridays ever be on time? That’s the question.

I’ve more than compensated though, throwing in almost 20 tracks for you to enjoy this week. There’s no skimping on the big names either, as there are some strong contributions from some of the bigger stars in the R&B/pop world. No real recap this week as the music industry has all but shut down, though the Alicia Keys version of Devil In A New Dress is a must-download.

Katy Perry-Firework Video

I’m increasingly impressed with what is being released by Perry. California Girls was hugely annoying, but since then her single choice has been very solid.

Firework displays the growing maturity in both her vocals and general musical stylings, as Mrs. Brand delivers as big a vocal performance as I’ve ever heard her come through with, fitting the grand nature (generally) associated with a firework nicely.

Production-wise, the implementation of orchestral elements alongside a pop-dance rhythm sets this apart as an empowering and uplifting club track with some depth and originality to it, even if the admirably-inspirational message is conveyed with relatively simplistic lyrics. Understandable though given her usual demographic, and doesn’t detract much from a decent song.

Travie McCoy Responds To Katy Perry’s Circle The Drain

There’s no denying that Perry’s Circle The Drain was about McCoy, and she admirably pulled no punches with the track.

To this point, neither of them had commented on the track, but Travie breaks the silence and gets some serious points for the short comeback: ‘I’m just stoked that she finally has a song with some substance’. Ouch! Nice.

I feel like a gossip columnist.

R&B Fridays: Episode 61

Fingers crossed, this week’s R&B Friday will actually reach you on time!

A really diverse episode awaits you this week, with both an interesting mixture of tracks and a range of well-known artists making the cut this week. Plenty of content with over 20 tracks making up this instalment, you should have enough to see you through the next week.

Hit that red line below and eat as much as you like. Go on, go crazy. No-one’s watching.

Katy Perry-Teenage Dream Video

I said it before, and I stand by it-I really don’t mind this song at all. It’s genuinely very listenable, and isn’t anywhere near as plastic as California Gurls.

The same has to be said for Katy herself: she looks much, much better in this video without all the gloss and fake stuff. Much easier-on-the-eye with a (comparatively) natural look.

Audio can be grabbed here.

R&B Fridays: Episode 60

I REALLY need to remember to do these. I prepare them all week, setting up playlists and filtering songs, but come Friday I end up being massively distracted and completely forget all my hard work.

You’ll forgive me after the click though, of that I’m sure. I’ve made sure all the big hitters are involved in this milestone episode. Don’t believe me? Prepare to look (even more) like a fool.

R&B Fridays: Episode 58

Let’s be honest here, my comeback was never going to feel complete until I dropped one of these. Indi’s done a cracking job over the last few weeks, keeping the R&B Fridays standards high and giving you all your weekly dose of R&B.

Taking 3 weeks away from new music (it’s taking forever to catch up…) has given me a clear head and fresh perspective on each of the tracks this week (admittedly, I’ve become less critical as a result!), so click on and grab some R&B from big names and newcomers alike. Do it. NOW.

Quick Blast: Passion Pit Remix California Gurls

Passion Pit add an electronic twist to Katy Perry’s single. There really isn’t a lot more I can say to describe it-it’s definitely more listenable than the original for those of you who find the pop sounds a bit too much, and will probably be the favoured version for many DJs.

Will provide a better quality version soon, but for now enjoy the first set of visuals from Perry’s upcoming second album. I expect it will be a fun, colourful effort!

R&B Fridays: Episode 48

So first Mediafire doesn’t let me upload. Then, my laptop decides it doesn’t like my external hard drive anymore. Then when they kiss and make up, Mediafire just won’t work for me. Annoying.

Anyway, lots of interesting songs in this week’s episode. I say interesting as a couple of them have quite pertinent backgrounds/accompanying news, which will definitely be of interest to most R&B fans!

A whole bunch of diverse tracks in this one, I tried to keep it as mixed as possible with 15 different artists, seeing as we went Bruno Mars-centric last week. Big names (lots of these), upcoming names, collabos, singers, rappers and more: they’re all there and waiting for you after the click.

Quick Blast: Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg

Undoubtedly, there will be fans of this. Katy Perry’s new single grabs Snoop for a verse, and is going to be an absolute smash. Pretty typical pop affair but has a slightly different sound to her previous stuff, with a very bouncy, summery element to it that will give it a good chance of getting over in clubs/on radio. Ready-made for the mainstream’s summer.

Notorious Indi’s Best of ‘09

2009 was one hell of an interesting year. We saw the comeback of Eminem, albums by the 2 other big names of hip-hop in Jay-Z and 50 Cent, and once again we waited all year for Dr. Dre’s Detox which never came. It’s fair to say that despite this the year hasn’t been dominated by the big boys and we’ve seen a gradual change in hip hop – the gangsta rap of previous years has steadily evolved into what can be described as ‘Hip Hop Hipsters’. Kanye led the way back in 2004 and by 2009 the likes of Lupe Fiasco, Kid Cudi, Wale and Asher Roth have emerged.

3OH!3 and Katy Perry Video

Here goes the video for Starstrukk. Admittedly, this song is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me as it’s a brainless, bouncy track which is great to have in the rotation. The video itself is fairly average, although it does have some funny moments. It has to be said that Katy Perry makes this song/video though.
