Fool's Gold-Loosies (Full Album Stream)

After celebrating five years of groundbreaking music and events, Brooklyn indie powerhouse Fool’s Gold Records puts a giant exclamation point on 2012 with the release of their highly anticipated rap compilation Loosies on December 18th.

Fool’s Gold are one of those labels that a surprising number of well-known acts have had some form of interaction with. From A-Trak being Kanye West’s former tour DJ and Kid Cudi breaking out on the label, to their current roster that boasts Danny Brown, Donnis and many more, they’re one of those labels that don’t force their brand on you, and instead let their acts do their work-an admirable quality.

This LP boasts 23 tracks from their artists and various guests, the latter including Juicy J, Jim Jones and Chuck Inglish, and certainly has some quality about it: an example includes Danny Brown’s thunderous Molly Ringwald, which got plenty of attention back in July. Stream the full thing here, and use the iTunes links in the player to grab the full project for yourself.

Jim Jones-The Crash

I don’t usually bother with Jones’ tracks too much, but there’s a degree of respect for this one as he recently survived a pretty serious car crash, and now takes to the mic to detail his experience.

It’s actually a pretty good effort too, as he tells the story of the situation in a captivating and concise manner, making this one of his most conscious and worthwhile tracks of his career. The production isn’t lacking either, with a vintage jazz influence that gives this a ‘back street open mic night’ feel. It’s funny how rapping about something that actually happened (as opposed to the ‘drug dealer’ schtick) adds so much passion to someone’s raps eh?

Clinton Sparks-Favorite DJ ft. Jim Jones, Game & Bun B (DJ Green Lantern Remix)

DJ Green Lantern remixes Clinton Sparks tribute to the DJ.

You all know what Jim Jones, Game and Bun B provide; likeable rhymes over a great beat. A real nice chorus to this track too, so it has all the elements a great mainstream hip hop track should have.

One I’ll be bumping for a while.

Kanye West, Teyana Taylor, CyHi Da Prynce, Dipset, Pusha T, Big Sean and Musiq Soulchild-Christmas In Harlem

Longest title ever? Now, I’m fully aware this was ‘out’ about a week ago. However, you’ll find that version had tags, probably wasn’t good quality, and wasn’t an authorised drop. This, on the other hand, is the latest addition to GOOD Fridays (despite being a Weds/Thurs depending on where you’re from) and is most certainly official.

Have to admit I’m a little disappointed with this. The highlights are most certainly Teyana’s vocals, who could easily be mistaken for Beyonce with a well delivered and catchy hook. None of the verses are particularly outstanding given the names on show, although they’re fairly short for the most part (particularly Sean and Pusha’s), which in fairness doesn’t give them a chance to get a flow together. Worth a listen if you want to be festive, but without being corny!

Maino, Swizz Beatz, Jim Jones, Jadakiss and Joell Ortiz-We Keep It Rockin’

#MonsterMondays have been really strong in recent weeks, and this week we get a Maino single with assistance from some of New York’s more prominent rappers.

The production is built around a California Love sample, with touches of claps, horns and a thudding percussion coming together in an upbeat and positive manner. Arguably, the sample could have been used a little better, but it does make for easy listening and each rapper approaches the track with good flows, with Joell unsurprisingly coming through with the most memorable verse.

Quick Blast: Jim Jones and Sean Garrett-Gettin’ It

A quick blast, only on the basis that there’s not too much to review here. It’s a decent, fairly standard bit of mainstream music with a catchy hook from Garrett, and that same old braggadocios style from Jim Jones. Not anything groundbreaking, but one that the mainstream audience will really enjoy.

Quick Blast: Another Posse Cut

Remember when these all-star guest tracks were rare? Those were the days. It seems like there’s one every couple of days, which massively dilutes their novelty.

Having said that, the line-up for this one is probably stronger on average than other recent posse cuts. Original can be found here.

DJ Envy-Lookin Like Money ft. Jim Jones, N.O.R.E., Maino & Styles P

This is one of the best posse cuts I’ve heard in quite a while. A beat that would sound great in your car and an auto-tuned hook that is nothing particularly special, but still does the job of getting stuck in your head.

Oh, and four rappers who are all renowned for their impeccable flows, fondness of money and hard-hitting lyrics.

Cam'ron and Jim Jones Release Kanye Diss

Admittedly, it’s not a total diss track as there are only 3 or 4 lines directly referencing Kanye, but they are pretty clear and brash lines over Kanye’s Runaway.

My only question is why now? Why make your move and attack just when the guy is back in favour? Trying to raise your own profiles? How the mighty have fallen. This is the kind of thing Benzino should be doing, not you two.

Worst of all, the song title is Toast and it doesn’t once mention a hearty slice of grilled bread.

The Catch-Up: Nas, Game, Jay Electronica and More

I don’t like doing these as it doesn’t leave room for reviews, but time’s been a rare commodity this weekend and it’s not right to hold this material from you. Some big name material below, although keep in mind the star-studded Game track is an unfinished version and hence it’s not yet getting the headline feature you’d expect it to.

Quick Blast: Collaborations Ahoy!

Haven’t had the time today to go through these sadly, but they’re 4 tracks that I anticipate will be worth checking out for sure. They all include artists that I appreciate, so be sure to give them a go.

Jim Jones/Duane Darock - Make Ya Body Go

New leak from that DJ Haze USA Today , Jim Jones gives us something to move to. Not a bad effort, but right now all I want to hear is some Dipset music, not too fussed by Jimmy’s (or Cam’ron’s) solo stuff!

Jim Jones/Sen City - Shootouts [Video]

Nice track and video here by Jimmy Jones, with a random appearance by Diddy – he’s everywhere lately! It’s also good to see both Cam’ron and Juelz Santana making cameos in this, as we’re all about unity here at OTU. Yeah that’s right, DJ Khaled ain’t got sh*t on us!

Huey/Jim Jones/Tydis - Celebrate

Real nice beat on this – from Huey’s sophomore album, Redemption (out September 14th)!

As you can guess from the title of the track, this song is about celebrating – get your glasses up/get hammered etc. Which we all like to do right?

Paypa/Game/Jim Jones – I Am Bitches [Video]

I was feeling this track when I first heard it and I’m still feeling it now. Always great to see some visuals of Game (not in a gay way), and even though this video being a generic club one it doesn’t detract from the actual song itself, it suits it perfectly. Mike Posner/Jim Jones - Cooler Than Me Remix

Loved the original to this, although I personally preferred the version he chose to make a video for, anyway it’s great to see rappers take on supremely talented songs made by Mike Posner! Sure, I’d rather someone held with more esteem when it comes to lyrical ability on this, but Jim Jones does a decent job, changing his flow to suit the track. Go grab the download below.

Sunday's Classic Collabo: Cam'ron/Jim Jones/Juelz Santana

After the return of Dipset earlier this week, I found myself revisiting some of their older material. As you can see from the video on the left, these guys made street hits that were mainstream enough for the clubs (in the US at least) to play.

A beat, that I was surprised wasn’t taken on by a plethora of other rappers, that will have you nodding your head until you spasm and a Juelz Santana who was really coming into his own as a heavy punchline hitting emcee, this is a track that had cemented Dipset as one of the largest ‘movements’ in hip-hop at the time. Only time will tell whether or not they can replicate that sort of following again. Grab the mp3 for this by clicking below.

Dipset....Are Back With A New Track - Salute

As teased earlier this week with a trailer, here is the first track these scallywags have made together in a good few years.

First impressions? Well the beat is absolutely crazy for a start, with Jim Jones, Cam’ron & Juelz all bringing verses filled with much bravado. Gets the thumbs up from me and I’m very interested to see what else they cook up in the future.

Paypa/Game/Jim Jones – I Am Bitches

Here’s a behind the scenes look at the upcoming video for the track I Am Bitches by Paypa.

With Jim Jones and The Game providing features for this track, Paypa has secured some big hitters which will certainly gain him more attention. Not to mention that the track itself is pretty good, go grab it below.

The Dipset 2010 Reunion

Take this as the official confirmation that the previously-feuding Dipset boys are all back together.

Will be interesting to hear some new music from them, and also gauging the response to it in a much harsher hip-hop climate than when they were last together.

The Hip-Hop Catch Up

As I said before, with Indi not around for a while the ‘middle level’ rappers need to be serviced, and are done so with a few tracks below. The Shawty Lo track is surprisingly likeable, and as hard a beat as I’ve ever heard him on. Jim Jones pretty much stamps the Dipset reunion by remixing a Cam track, and Buck drops off two really enjoyable (and different) tracks.

Something Of A Megapost

I’m on holiday for the next two weeks so you’ll have to put up with the rest of the OTU team (unlucky). However…I have found time to collect together a silly amount of tracks over the past week or so for you guys to tide you over while I’m away.

So click on for a mainstream hip-hop fix from the likes of Joe Budden, Royce Da 5’9″, Bun-B, Young Jeezy, Nipsey Hussle, Wiley, Sean Kingston, Drake, Young Buck, Tinchy Stryder, Devlin, Giggs, Tinie Tempah, Jay-Z & Jim Jones.

Peter Rosenberg and Cypress Hill-The Uprising (Tribute Mixtape)

Interesting one to kick off your day, and I’m quite looking forward to giving this a listen. A good group of decent artists pay homage to Cypress Hill, including Asher Roth, Styles P, Sheek Louch, Redman and buzzing man of the moment Yelawolf (amongst others). Should be a fairly entertaining listen, and includes some of Cypress Hill’s classics in there too.

DJ Kay Slay & 25 Rappers on 1 Track!

I didn’t know who to pick for the image, so please enjoy this dog in scuba gear.

25 rappers, I kid you not. So many in fact, I couldn’t add them all into the song title in iTunes! I’ve listed them below, and they can also be found in the ‘description’ section of the track.

DJ Kay Slay-Rollin’ 25 Deep pt. 2 ft. Bully, Bun B, Busta Rhymes, Dorrough, Glasses Malone, Grafh, Hell Rell, Jacki-O, Jay Rock, Jim Jones, Maino, Mistah F.A.B., Mysonne, N.O.R.E., OGK, Papoose, Raekwon, Redman, Sauce Money, Serius Jones, Sheek Louch, Styles P, Tone Trump, Uncle Murda & Vado.
