7L & Esoteric / Inspectah Deck-12th Chamber

My favourite joint from the duo’s 1212 album.

The beat is driven by a violin-inspired orchestra whilst accompanied by soothing feminine vocals setting the mic up for Deck and Esoteric to beat down. Esoteric really goes off here. He’s one of the very few MC’s whose flow has the ability to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

7L & Esoteric - No Shots

If you like hip-hop, you really should be familiar with the underground duo of producer 7L and Army Of The Pharaohs’ MC, Esoteric.

First leak from their album 1212 which drops October 12th. Here Esoteric spits some rhymes on his thoughts of the current industry over 7L’s Rihanna-sampling instrumentals.

1212 boasts features from the likes of Ill Bill, Alchemist, Evidence, Inspectah Deck, Sadat X, Vinnie Paz, Celph Titled, Statik Selektah and OTU favourite Reef The Lost Cauze.

Quick Blast: Inspectah Deck

Continuing the Wu-resurgence, the groups’ most underrated MC, Inspectah Deck, is due to release The Manifesto LP on March 23rd.

Crazy, like the album itself, has a much different feel from anything Mathematics (in my previous post) has conjured up. Deck, both as a budding producer himself and the enlistment of several up-and-comers, has crafted a project which still maintains that traditional Wu style, yet is well-equipped for hip-hop as it stands today. Although I felt there were a few fillers which Deck could have done without, The Manifesto is a nice addition to any Wu fans’ iTunes.

Quick Blast: GZA, Masta Killa & Inspectah Deck

Newest track to emerge from DJ Mathematics’ Return of the Wu & Friends. If you missed the inside scoop on the album and the first drop then recap here.

Back on topic, Mathematics lays down a late 80′s real old school beat and pieces together lyrics belonging to none other than the GZA, Masta Killa and Inspectah Deck. Nice Big Daddy Kane sampling. Really like this.

Two New Drops – JoJo Pellegrino / Life & Death Prod.

Two new tracks after the click.

Pellegrino drops a new joint in anticipation of his upcoming LP Real Spit. He lines up some old school legends in the form of Sean Price from Heltah Skeltah and Deck known best for his work with the Wu. Pellegrino has been in the game for several years now, famously appearing on the fictional ‘Game Radio FM‘ station on Grand Theft Auto III. Many had high hopes however nothing much seemed to materialize and with features such as this, it seems he may be on his way back.

This track itself showcases Pellegrino’s flexibility on the mic and he holds his own against both his counterparts.

Ajay-182's Best of '09

In what can best be described as a fitting coincidence given the retrospective nature of this particular post, 2009 was very much a year of hindsight. I rediscovered artists I’d neglected, I discovered artists who I’d simply ignored, but most importantly I began to see the fundamental flaw in my appreciation of music (especially hip-hop) and how I probably got it wrong.

Don’t make the same mistakes. Click on to grab some unmissable tracks, and of course my discoveries from the year gone by. I’ve thrown in a couple of lists too, as I know some of you can’t deal with excess reading.

Underground Hip-Hop Part 2

bishop-g
You may recall some time ago, I wrote a post in which I put up a couple of tracks from some underground hip-hop artists that you might have missed.

Well, it’s back again, and there are some artists in here that you’ve probably never heard of, and some you may have. Either way, between them they provide music to suit a variety of hip-hop styles.

The same theory applies to this post as applied to its predecessor: This is merely my way of sifting through the hundreds of artists that drop tracks daily and showing you a few more to check for. Check them out and broaden your horizons.
