“Fly Gypsy’s producer, one-man band, and DJ, Alexei, is releasing the first installment of his mixtape series that will highlight diverse music genres in a club-friendly format. Alexei selects an obvious summer choice for the first installment — feel-good dance music, mixing up hip hop and electro, dancehall and house in a continuous 75-min mix that will keep the energy high at any house party or cook-out.
Alexei liberally swaps out vocals and instrumentals and retouches the tracks, turning out unpredictable mashups and remixes. The mixtape features Lil Wayne, Pitbull, Ludacris, David Guetta, Estelle, Busta Rhymes, Lauryn Hill, Nicki Minaj, LMFAO, Beenie Man, Jackson 5, Damian Marley and Nas, Janet Jackson, and many others”.
Sounds like a superb way to kick off the summer to me!

As you well know by now, I don’t write album/mixtape reviews or feature articles unless it’s something very worthwhile. It’s a lot of time and dedication for me, so you know there’s a damn good reason behind it right? Right.
OTU followers will be familiar with this duo (and all you newcomers need to get educated, fast). We’ve followed them for quite some time, and they’ve really stepped their game up in the last 2/3 months with this remix project. If you’ve missed any of the utterly awesome remixes they’ve put out, click on to find the links for recapping.
Anywho, it’s time to unleash the entire project. 18 tracks of fantastic music from an unbelievable (you’ll agree, trust me!) range of genres that will cement these guys as ones to watch for 2010. If you don’t have time for the review, you can download the mixtape here. If you do, click on.

I’ve been asked a couple of times today, and don’t worry: I’m dropping you the anticipated mixtape from Fly Gypsy shortly/today. It’s been a busy day, but I’ll get it out!
To warm you up, check out the official promo trailer for the project, which is a decent montage of live clips. Worth a look for a sneak peek of what to expect.
Another week, another fantastic Fly Gypsy remix. This time it’s one of the biggest collabs of recent times, and as ever they’ve added a unique twist. Alexei adds some guitar riffs on top of the existing production, which definitely adds a raw element to the track which fits really well.
It’s crazy to say it, but Kom’s verse really fits in alongside these two heavyweights. He drops his usual relaxed flow for an intense delivery, which shifts speeds at various points really well. It’s a good verse lyrically too, and genuinely fits in superbly with the original. I’ll probably be playing this instead of the original, as the additions are really worthwhile. Undefeated at 4-0 on the remixes as far as I’m concerned.
Fly Gypsy-Drop The World ft. Lil’ Wayne and Eminem
My busy schedule put me a week behind on this, and you’re going to hate me for it once you’ve checked it out.
The audio: Dope, and unquestionably one of the strongest remixes of this track (and there are a lot to choose from!). Not only are the raps smooth, but the already superb beat has undergone additional treatments, and the changes are both noticeable and really good.
The video: Tell me these boys don’t have confidence. They’ve definitely got the look and charisma to do justice to their music and it’s a good, well-made video.
That’s 3/3 on the remixes so far. Day-by-day, I’m beginning to believe these boys are going to be a big, big deal.
Completely forgot to send this up. Yet another dope remix from the DC duo!
“They build on the playfulness of the original track while introducing a smart message that many women will appreciate. Kom doesn’t mince his words, leaving little doubt that smart is sexy in the Fly Gypsy world.
It’s sound is also more club-friendly, courtesy of additional production from Alexei. ‘I put on my DJ hat and asked myself what would make this track translate better in a club. The answer came immediately – some subtle yet sticky synth lines to give the track more drive. So I did my magic and now challenge anyone to not get up and dance when they hear this’.
Fly Gypsy-Pretty Girls Remix ft .Wale and Weensey
Fly Gypsy just get better and better. They remix Birdman/Cash Money’s soon-to-be smash hit I Want It All, and frankly do better than the original. Birdman was pretty sh*t on the track (and generally), and Kom adds his own fast-paced and well-stacked verses to replace them (which is a favour to us all really).
Alexei has made a couple of smart additions to the beat too, which adds a little more depth to the production. Comes 100% recommended by me to be honest. This is from the upcoming FG*XL:remixtape, which is set to drop in March.
