Nas ft. AZ – Life’s A Bitch [Live]

So I’ve been meaning to post this up for a while now, but every time I go to do it I get distracted watching the entire Illmatic performance from Nas’ SXSW set. I’ve gone with his AZ joint venture here, but you’ll have to head over to YouTube and battle with that VEVO thing to watch the rest.

Things to note from this:

1. PREMO is on the decks!

2. AZ spits like it’s 1995 all over and I’m salivating for a potential new collab on either his or Nas’ upcoming LP.

3. The crowd is horrible. Like horrible. I feel bad for Nas. I mean, there he is performing the best hip hop album of all time. Live. With AZ. With Premo. And nothing.

AZ - My Ni**as (Produced by Buckwild)

Now THIS is what I’m talking about. First drop from AZ’s Doe Or Die II (As summer is officially here in Barcelona, I’ve been bumping the original a lot recently) and it sounds gooood.  This is more of a ‘shout out’ track and wouldn’t surprise me if it ended up at the end of the LP, but from what I hear from Buckwild and AZ is that the both are still on form like it’s 1995 all over. Horns are on the agenda here giving the flavour of this track that old-school 90′s feel that us 90′s heads all clamour for. Delicious.

AZ and Cormega-Murda On The Daily

A few tracks coming up which got caught up in the Section .80 shuffle. Up first is half of The Firm coming through with that Brooklyn/QB connect. Eerie, retrospective rolling piano keys over a typical New York baseline. AZ and Mega do their thing lyrically as always (two of the most consistent and yet underrated emcees in the game) and is exactly the type of thing I’m expecting (hoping) for on AZ’s Doe Or Die 2.

Wonderful Weekend Wonders

<— Kool G Rap holding a bullet in his teeth. Why not?

I’m going away this weekend to the city they named the big apple after (after Amsterdam sold it to the UK). So, with beer in hand, I’ll leave you with a few drops from over the past few days for you to enjoy in my absence. I’ve obviously got a joint with G Rap on, I’ve got some new Reks from his upcoming mixtape, some new Joell Ortiz (standard) and a revamped version of an AZ classic.

Hit the jump for the links and a bit of pre-match analysis.

AZ – The Calm

Been meaning to post this for a few days now. Some new AZ for y’all over a Statik Selektah beat. This can be found on his Doe Or Die anniversary re-issue. That’s great. But what I want to hear is that new Doe Or Die 2 shit.

AZ - Nothing Move

Some new AZ for you, although unfortunately not from his upcoming Doe Or Die 2. In fact, it seems it’s a specially recorded track from the 15th anniversary edition of the original Doe Or Die.

This beat is very 2007 AZ. Meh.

Throwback Thursdays Vol 35

Nas, AZ, Nature, Foxy Brown and Dr. Dre. Pretty dope supergroup right? Wrong. Well, wrong in some ways.

The Firm was born after Nas (following the late great Notorious BIG) decided to take a mainstream direction and Dre began to diversify his empire. AZ, Nature and Foxy were, although all Nas’ comrades, primarily along for the ride.

I say wrong because their first and only self-titled album was considered a failure. Dre fans will remember the Forgot About Dre line: “All you niggas that said that I turned pop / Or the Firm flopped / ya’ll are the reason Dre ain’t been getting no sleep!”

But it wasn’t all bad for the formidable MC/production group as I will show with this week’s gritty throwback which is essentially a Nas, AZ, Dre collaboration.

AZ-Feel My Pain Video

For those AZ fans clamoring after Doe Or Die 2 here are the visuals for his Feel My Pain joint I gifted you last week.

Forgot how awesome this track is and the video dropping gives me another opportunity to bring it back around again.

If you missed it then you’re lucky aren’t you because I’m giving you a second chance here.

Quick Blast: New AZ

New AZ scheduled to be on his upcoming Doe Or Die 2. Always eager to get hold of a few early leaks to get a good taster for the LP.

Goes without saying but AZ goes in hard here over a typical Brooklyn-style beat.

Caution: Mind The Gap

I was in bed last night pondering upon a question I had been asked by @RupeshB: Who did I think was the most consistently on point rapper throughout their career? The answer I gave couldn’t have been a freshman MC (hell even I could be consistent for five minutes) and therefore had to be someone who had seen the changes in the demands of the genre; Someone who had spanned the 90’s and 00’s; Someone who had not necessarily cemented his stature in the hip-hop hall of fame; Merely someone who, throughout their career, has consistently brought a high standard of rapping ability time and time again and yet is still doing it to this very day.

Quick Blast: Throwback AZ Review

Those of you who have followed Murray’s Throwback Thursdays (which I expect is all of you by now) should be familiar with AZ. If you aren’t, consider yourself an idiot and get educated here.

Our colleagues over at 365 Albums A Year reviewed AZ’s Murray-acclaimed 1995 Doe or Die album, and it’s definitely worth a read for fans of his work/our own Throwback Thursdays.

Raekwon, AZ and Ghostface Killah

Quick one from me, with another leak from DJ Kay Slay’s upcoming album. Unlike some of the other leaks, the features on this are some real hard-hitters, and this should be a great track on the strength of these three rappers.

New and Remixed AZ

I’m so ridiculously distracted by anything other than what I’m supposed to be doing today. How can I possibly concentrate when I’ve got all this new awesome music dropping from every angle on the ‘net?!

Ok, straight into it. New sh*t from AZ. Real heads, you know what it is. The feature track here is the Moss produced I’m Ill which is rumored to appear on AZ’s Doe or Die 2 tentatively scheduled for a 2010 release. Now, I am really into this joint. Moss is a protégé of DJ Premier (there is no escaping Premo this week is there!) and he drops a superb-piano-laced-Brooklyn-style-perfect-for-AZ kinda beat. You know what I mean?

Throwback Thursdays Vol 3

az

In true Christmas spirit, if you guessed this week’s throwback then give yourself a treat here.

Now onto business. Yes, this week’s throwback is the underrated AZ hailing from Brooklyn NY.

The gems I’ve carefully selected for you are from his debut album Doe or Die which, in my opinion, was heavily slept on due to the quality of other releases hitting the shelves in 1995. I’ve picked out two of my favourites to make sure you’re not the one sleeping on AZ this time around.
