Apathy-Peace Connecticut Video

“Apathy is preparing to take his career to another level with the release of his third-solo LP, Honkey Kong, which will be released on 8-23-2011. The Connecticut emcee and The Get Busy Committee (Apathy, Scoop Deville and Ryu released Uzi Does It in October 2010) and AOTP member has undeniably crafted his best project to date and it includes production from Apathy, DJ Premier, DJ Muggs, Statik Selektah, Evidence, Da Beatminerz and Teddy Roxpin among others. Guest appearances on Honkey Kong include Xzibit, Slaine, Vinnie Paz, Esoteric, Ill Bill, Celph Titled, Action Bronson, General Steele (Smif N Wessun) and Mad Lion.”

This album is excellent. Like really excellent. Lots of differing opinions from the underground heads but the production on this is the strongest we’ve seen on an Ap LP and lyrically you know what you’re in for. Hopefully it’ll get the recognition it deserves across the industry. If you enjoyed Celph Titled and Buckwild’s Nineteen Ninety Now from last year, you’ll definitely get some decent replay value out of this one. Buy.

Apathy ft. Celph Titled-What Ya Doing (Prod. DJ Premier)

Oh God. I think a little bit of wee just came out. What a day for hip-hop. So, this was always going to be the headline track from Ap’s upcoming Honkey Kong LP (August 23rd) and boy it doesn’t half deliver. Premo drops an old-school flavoured beat which sounds lifted from Gang Starr’s classic 1991 Step In The Arena. Apathy proves why he’s one of the hottest underground spitters out right now, and hearing Celph over old-school boom-bap brings me right back to last year’s superb Nineteen Ninety Now with Buckwild. Oh and apparently Apathy mixed the record which is the first time Premo has ever let an artist do that. How’s that for a co-sign.

Apathy-Check To Check [Video]

“This video was filmed in February, in the dead of an east coast winter, to capture the sullen vibe of the song. Filmed with mostly family and friends (and a few strange extras who had no idea they were being filmed), “Check To Check” is an honest look at really real life shit.

Apathy-Check To Check

It seems weird to think it was over a year and a half since Wanna Snuggle dropped, yet Apathy is back with the first single from the highly anticipated Honkey Kong.

The new album sees features from underground heavyweights, such as fellow-AOTP members Vinnie Paz and Celph Titled, who have become stalwarts on the scene. However, the album’s real treat is behind the boards, securing a stellar line-up including the likes of DJ Premier and DJ Muggs, which I’m sure all you ‘heads can’t wait to hear.

With this first offering, Apathy teams up with Evidence of Dilated Peoples, who provides a really infectious beat with a classic Outkast sample. Lyrically Apathy doesn’t disappoint, delivering 3 solid verses to match the production, and successfully conveying that euphoric feeling you get when you’re completely skint.

Quick Blasts: New Game / Celph Titled

As you can probably tell from the image, we are running out of pictures of Game to use. No, unfortunately this isn’t a collaboration between heavyweight mainstream and heavyweight underground. But on the plus side it is two tracks instead of just one.

Game – Slangin’ Game (DJ)

From his upcoming mixtape. Laid back joint. Chorus is annoying. Will keep you Game fans occupied no doubt though. (Apologies for DJ verison, but it doesn’t anything away).

Celph Titled & Buckwild (feat Apathy & Chino XL) – Styles Ain’t Raw

Underground heaven? Almost. Chino steals the show, but it’s awesome seeing this kind of line up for the underground heads out there.

Murray’s Best of ’09

So I think we are all in agreement: 2009 has been quite a year for hip-hop. It has seen the return of Em, Jay has completed his Blueprint trilogy and 50 has had so much beef you would think he will be full up for Xmas (*cringes*. Yeah that was bad).

Aside from the big names dropping their albums, we have also seen some highly anticipated underground acts dropping LP’s too. This is my Best Of ’09 list and contains some real gems so don’t let the year go past before getting your hands on these.

Enjoy.
