My word, this has unbelievable potential. Mash-up mixtapes are one thing, but when helmed by the veteran talent that is 9th Wonder, you know it’s going to be coated with a professionalism that trumps most other projects of this kind. Add to that the concept of blending the entire American Gangster album with some fantastic old-school pop and soul works, this becomes a must-have mixtape.
Those vintage inclusions feature such names as Curtis Mayfield, The Jackson 5, Kool & The Gang alongside more, whilst also seemingly retaining the original’s guest appearances. A combination that promises much, and you can grab the entire project for free below.

I don’t know a great deal about Rapsody, but the album’s warming title and artwork coupled with a phenomenal lineup of features makes this one that I’m very eager to check out sooner rather than later.
Assists on this one come from Childish Gambino, Rocki Evans, Mac Miller, The Cool Kids, Ab-Soul, Raheem DeVaughn and more. I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s as close to grabbing a complete who’s who of upcoming rappers as anyone’s come in recent months, and not only does that add star power, but it gives Rapsody plenty to compete with and live up to. With such weighty cosigns I’m sure he’ll have some quality to deliver, and you can stream or download the album over at DJBooth below.

It’s slipped under the radar slightly, largely due to the recent barrage of mainstream hip-hop releases, but 27th September sees the release of 9th Wonder’s latest album, The Wonder Years. Boasting some fantastic features to accompany his consistent yet extremely diverse productions, it looks to be an album that real hip-hop dedicates will thoroughly enjoy, and a taster is offered here with the short and enjoyable Band Practice.
Phonte’s having a real purple patch at the minute, and he opens this track with his much-loved sense of humour on show (referencing a rather popular Youtube vide0!), following it up with another memorable verse as he throws a little aggression into his style for a nice show of versatility. Median does a good job with his own verse, whilst 9th serves up a slick, soulful production with an addictive percussion and mesmerising sample.

Got my sweaty little mitts (it’s been incredibly humid in Barcelona) on Act Proof’s latest free offering in association with DJBooth.net and some other people. As I tweeted an hour ago, it’s well worth getting your hands on it too if you’re really into your hip-hop as it’s got solid lyricism and enjoyable production in abundance.
“The project features 18 original joints from emcees Sundown and Enigma, including reader-approved leak “Get It Done.”
Joining Actual Proof on the guest tip throughout Still Hotter Than July are Thee Tom Hardy, Sean Boog,Rapsody, Chuuwee, GQ, Drique London, Median and Bluu Suede. In addition to instrumentals by 9th Wonder and Enigma the set features beats by fellow Soul Council members E. Jones, Ka$h, Khrysis and Amp.”
Get it here.
A nice little addition to hip-hoppers’ collections up for grabs here. I’d never head of Act Proof, a North Carolina duo consisting of Sundown and Enigma, until I saw a few rumblings around these parts over the past few weeks of their upcoming project overseen by prestigious beat-maker 9th Wonder.
“The project is comprised of two sides – The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Experience and The Malcolm X Experience – that will both take listeners on a peaceful journey and give them a sense of urgency.”
If you’re into the ‘newer school’ of lyricists such as Lupe Fiasco, Torae or Skyzoo with jazz and funk-sampling beats, you’ll enjoy this. Get your hands on The Talented Tenth, for free, here.
EDIT: This is a very good, well put-together project with some brilliantly crafted instrumentals and addictive lyricism.
I’m feeling a bit lazy, and the football (soccer) will have started by the time I’ve published this, so here’s some stuff I’ve got from the last couple of days. 4 very diverse tracks though, grab ‘em. More coming later.
