A$AP Rocky-Goldie Video

The lead single from Rocky’s upcoming debut album is given the video treatment just two weeks after the audio release. Those are the kind of timings I can get on board with.

The video is a great representation of what Rocky’s all about: plenty of energy and style accompanied by huge doses of charisma and confidence. A relatively simple video, the clip lets Rocky makes the most of his lead single with plenty of solo time, varying from close-ups of him rapping to driving around at night. I expect comparisons to be drawn with an early Lil’ Wayne in terms of the gravitas he has on screen as he’s great fun to watch in full swing, and whilst I hate using the word, he has a natural ‘swagger’ that’s difficult to resist.

Fundamentally, it’s a lively video that matches the bouncy audio excellently, giving this single plenty of potential to help A$AP Rocky break that final barrier to mainstream success. Audio review is over here, and LongLiveA$AP coming soon.

Busta Rhymes ft. LL Cool J-Killin' Em

A rather random but welcome surprise as one of the G.O.A.T.s, LL Cool J, drops a verse, bringing the sort of aggressiveness that made him a star. Busta Rhymes does his usual shtick of rapping about nothing and making it sound good, but it’s LL who steals the show here, bringing the “OHH!” moment with his very last bar. The hook’s a rehash of LL’s Jingling Baby but captures none of the original’s appeal, and the track sounds unfinished generally as the vocals and beat sound as though they need working on. Nonetheless it’s worth a listen for LL’s verse at least.

50 & Em Prank Lloyd Banks

If you’ve been following 50 on Twitter then you may have noticed him airing some dirty laundry aimed at Banks yesterday.

This culminated in 50 tweeting how him and Em had confronted Banks backstage followed by him leaking this video. Blue Hefner looked pretty shook at 0:39!

50 even had Floyd Mayweather fooled!

Raekwon/Eminem Collabo On The Way! Nas Collabo In The Works Too

Wow, this should excite a fair few of you hip-hop heads. Raekwon talks (via Twitter) about chopping it up with Eminem & Nas at the Openair Frauenfeld festival in Switzerland (which myself and Ajay went to last year)!

Here’s what he had to say:

“ok since yall dont think its me imma show yall, just met my dude @eminem today in switzerland, collabo gonna happehttp://twitpic.com/23wgru,”

“we spoke for a few but he had a ill story he said when he was gettin on he came to staten for parkhill day in 97 and that blew my mind!”

“Also seen my brother @nas tonight as well and theres alot more collabos in the works for us but also got some footage 4 yall!”

I can’t even imagine how an Eminem/Raekwon collabo would sound like!

R.I.P. DJ AM

425.dj.am.060209
Damn. Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein was found dead in his apartment earlier tonight.

He survived a plane crash last year along with Travis Barker, which took the lives of several others, and sadly he has too now passed away.

I’d got into his collabo work with Travis Barker a few months back, and it was awesome stuff. I’ve watched videos of them performing live, and they were ridiculous. He’d toured with some of the biggest names in music recently, and his name was getting bigger by the day. Definitely a talented dude, and a loss to music.

Rest in peace DJ AM.
