Fresh from the release of her mixtape (get that here), Mz Bratt releases some visuals from one of my favourite tracks from it. The video is set somewhere that has great scenery and sunshine (safe to say not in the UK!), and it supplements the whole vibe of the sound that the song conveys. You may have gathered from previous posts on this website about Mz Bratt and Dot Rotten, these are two artists in the UK scene who are well worth listening to, and this video certainly solidifies that belief.
First impressions of this mixtape: I’m liking the production an awful lot, the tracks that are dub-influenced in particular I enjoyed thoroughly and tracks like Make It Rain (freestyle), Get Dark and Speeding proves this girl can add some rapping substance to do the production justice. Speaking of UK emcees, the female of the species often gets overlooked in what is certainly a male-dominated scene. Quite often female emcees are unfairly dismissed by those who won’t even bother to listen to their songs. If you’re one of those people, you’ll be making a mistake in dismissing this post without watching the vid to your left! Mz Bratt raps with confidence, a nice flow and mixed with some very nice punchlines, you could say she’s put some of her male counterparts to shame. The top-notch beat and addictive chorus are supplemented with some good visuals (directed by Carly Cussen) that really allows the attention and focus to shine on Mz Bratt. Great stuff. Yup, they’re really milking this song now – not surprised as the beat is immense. Featuring: Ruff Diamondz, Adot, Envy, Cherri V, BabyBlue, RoxXxan, Lioness, Mz Bratt & Lady Leshurr (not heard of the majority of these females, I must admit), some of them come through with some very impressive verses, but a couple of them fail hard tbh. Still, great to see some female mcs being given this opportunity for mainstream exposure with this remix, given that Grime is undeniably a male-dominated affair. |
