Chima Anya-Riot Cleanup Fundraiser [Event]

Given the devastation caused by the recent riots here in England it’s safe to say a lot needs to be done in order to rebuild our communities. Chima Anya himself is doing his bit, as you can read from his bulletin below:

“Greetings one and all, I hope this bulletin finds you all well. Given the current climate I’m now deferring my mixtape release and the celebrations planned for Fat Gold Chain’s anniversary to focus on trying to help with this current messed up situation we are facing in the UK with these riots.

The event originally planned as the 1 Year anniversary party will now serve as a fund raiser for local businesses affected by the irresponsible acts we have seen through out the UK in the recent weeks. All proceeds will be donated to charity. The line up remains the same, myself and JHC, and DJs but we will really be trying to get people involved in looking for a positive solution to this problem because I’m tired of all this empty talk on Facebook/ twitter.”

Chima Anya-Strickly Fore Mye Niggurz

If you combine solid raps with a nice dose of humour, you’re on the right path to getting my attention. Indi’s already a big supporter of this guy, and you’ll probably be following suit after this.

Chima laces Joell Ortiz’s Sing Like Bilal beat with some solid raps, taking on the bass-heavy production with a confidence that belies his status as an underground rapper. The synergy with the beat is definitely there, and he really stamps his own style on the track.

A brilliantly unpretentious video to accompany it too. Chima kicks off by miscellaneously rapping/shouting at the lady in his car, and then proceeds to pretty much have a bit of a laugh with his mates, who are doing press-ups, pull-ups and other gymnastic and/or dance moves. Just a bit of fun really, and when accompanied by some good raps, it makes for an easygoing experience all-round.

Chima Anya-Feel Us ft. Skandal

Here’s a new track by Chima Anya which is off his upcoming mixtape, Unresolved.

The production on this really has that classic hip hop sound, very Q-Tip like – and it really suits Chima’s style as a rapper. It’s great to hear a UK artist who can do this type of music and do it well.

Chima Anya-Clocks Part 2

Here’s the first drop from Chima Anya’s upcoming mixtape, Unresolved (Formerly Your Blog Is Sh*t).

Real nice track here, with Chima Anya spitting about the work he’s been putting in whilst surrounded by hardships. Some dub-step influenced production here too, which helps project the stressful vibe of the subject matter.

Chima Anya will also be performing at the launch party for this mixtape on the 17th December at Cavendish Arms, where fans are welcome to attend. More info here.

Chima Anya-Hey ft Sincere [Video]

“Having opened for (and rivaling performance wise) Jay Electronica, Wale, Chiddy Bang and Brother Ali this year, as well as the debut album “New Day” making the “itunes best of 2010 hip-hop” list THE DOCTOR (fully qualified, still practising medicine) continues to smash it with his new video for single “Hey” featuring North London legend Sincere.”

Nice track here by Chima Anya, the thing I like most about him is that he raps purely for the love of the game, being a practising doctor suggests that he’s not doing this music thing because it’s all he’s got going for him! Having supported some big names, and the quality of tracks like this and his rendition of Kanye West’s Power, Chima Anya is a name you’ll be hearing more of.

Chima Anya – Jazz Cafe [Freestyle]

Wow, this is crazy – Chima Anya freestyles off the top of his head at Jazz Cafe last night (whilst supporting Wale) and to prove that his freestyle wouldn’t be pre-written, he asks the crowd to give him subjects to rap about! Props to Roy @ DJ Semxtex’s blog for this video.

“The crowd came up with Immigration, Bloggers, Nigeria, Chicken and Chips, Celebrities and being a one woman man. Hit play and see the result!”

Putting some of his American counterparts to shame.

Impressed by this? Go check out his recent remix of Kanye’s new single.

Chima Anya – Power [Video]

Saw this on DJ Semtex’s blog, English rapper Chima Anya goes in hard on Kanye’s new single. The video being shot completely on the new iphone 4! It’s rare to see a UK emcee rap about relevant topics in our society with such originality and confidence, a welcome change from the likes of Tinchy Stryder et al.

Chima Anya is actually supporting Wale this Monday (5th of July) at Camden’s Jazz Cafe (you may remember our review of Jay Electronica’s show at the same venue). To get hold of tickets – click here.
