Marsha Ambrosius-Later Nights and Earlier Mornings (Mixtape)

New release from the wonderful Marsha Ambrosius, as she drops off a 9 track collection of rarities and remixes.

Among the remixes is her own version of Big Sean’s Marvin and Chardonnay, along with her take on Jay-Z and Kanye West’s N***as In Paris, whilst the original material is made up of tracks that didn’t quite make the Late Nights and Early Mornings album. Undoubtedly, Marsha’s great vocals should make this a must-listen, and you can grab the project for free below.

Mickey Factz and Marsha Ambrosius-For The Culture Video

For a man who drops as much music as Mickey does, he has a serious dearth of music videos. Not really sure why, but regardless he’s picked a very solid all-rounder here for a rare visual.

It’s pretty difficult to dislike Marsha’s voice, and her soulful hook slides in smoothly alongside Mickey’s clear and witty raps, undoubtedly making for one of his more rounded, ‘complete’ tracks to date. That’s not to say it’s his best material as it isn’t, but it’s one of the few that feels more like a song than a rap.

Video is solid and cleanly produced, giving the ever-confident Mickey some valuable face time, alongside a couple of nice cameos from his peers. Fairly regular motif-wise, throwing in some artwork to highlight the ‘culture’ part of the track, alongside a few feelgood and celebratory scenes that give this a nice positivity. Nothing classic, but it correctly uses more simple devices to filter Mickey’s natural penchant for trying a bit of everything. Track can be found on the Heaven’s Fallout re-release.

R&B Fridays: Episode 95

5 weeks away from the 100th episode, and the ‘new format’ rolls on with another easy-to-digest and concise edition. Not too much to catch up on in terms of different posts, but I’m sure anyone with even a sprinkling of good taste will be interested in grabbing 64 Frank Ocean tracks.

An interesting blend of mainstream stuff and more refined soul-oriented material this week, as well as chucking in the now customary throwback R&B track of the week. Click below to be happy.

R&B Fridays: Episode 88

A few interesting remixes this week, with over a third of this week’s tracks being of the remix variety. Other great tracks in there too, making this an R&B Friday that you’ll forgive for being a little late to the party.

Unlike recent weeks, there’s a pretty big recap on this week’s notable R&B/pop events: Yasmin previewed her new single, Tank came through with a new video, Timbaland’s #TimboThursdays rolled on, Trey Songz released the Love Faces video,  Miguel and Gilbere Forte combined for a fantastic effort, Diddy’s Dirty Money trio released an official mixtape, last week’s notable Grammy performances, Bruno Mars’ Grenade getting the Lil’ Wayne remix, and finally Erin Christine’s fantastic performance of Naked. Marsha Ambrosius-Far Away Video

Powerful video for a fantastic song, as Marsha puts her velvety vocals to great use here with a meaningful video that will strike a chord with most viewers.

There’s no veiling the situation here, as Marsha not only gives gay relationships a rare spot in urban music, but also offers a harsh exposure to the effects and consequences of homophobia. It’s a thoughtful and tragic video that is extremely sobering, traits that are immeasurably enhanced by the emotion of the audio.

Great song and worthwhile video. The audio can be found in here.

R&B Fridays: Episode 76

Whilst the rest of the music world seems to have taken a much-needed breather this week (album releases aside), there’s been no shortage of new and/or unreleased R&B and pop material in the 76th instalment of R&B Fridays.

The week has already seen a great new video from Tank, two new remixes from T-Pain, a captivating video for Bruno Mars’ Grenade, the UK’s own Chipmunk working with Chris Brown, another release from Trey Songz’s upcoming mixtape, Keri Hilson and Kanye West getting together for a new remix, Keyshia Cole and Nicki Minaj’s collabo video, and the unexpected release of a John Legend and Estelle EP.

Lots up there, and lots down below. Click on.

R&B Fridays: Episode 67

Lots of things I could pick out in this week’s episode, but probably the most prominent would be the features: there are lots of them! A couple of unexpected ones too, including Asher Roth’s first appearance in R&B Fridays.

Warm yourself up for this episode with some help from Bruno Mars and Nicki Minaj: watch Bruno Mars perform some classics, listen to Bruno collab with Damian Marley, and enjoy a cover version of Just The Way You Are. Then, grab a great Nicki-featured collabo, listen to her next single from Pink Friday,  and finally catch her blended with La Roux and Colin Munroe.

Wale and Marsha Ambrosius-Diary Video

One of the strongest tracks on Wale’s debut album (viewed by many as the strongest track) gets some very likeable visuals. The video really emphasises the storytelling Wale delivers with his lyrics, and definitely does justice to the superb track.

One I expect you’ll watch more than once. The audio can be found on Wale’s album, which is finally stocked in UK shops almost 6 months after US release. Well played music industry…no wonder you’re losing money.
