Something a little soulful for you this evening. Mara Hruby is an upcoming soul singer, who released a free album a few months back with a bunch of reworks/cover versions.
This one samples J Dilla/The Roots’ Stereolab, utilising the natural bounce and flowing quality of the original to great effect by lacing it with smooth, melodic vocals that combine with the production for a relaxing yet head-nodding track. It’s a very harmonic combination, and results in some very easy listening.
The relatively simple video (directed by Jesse Boykins III) adds to the organic vibe of the track, using a very real and open style that rolls nicely alongside the audio. The track and entire album/EP can be both streamed and downloaded from here.
