DJ Alexei Presents: Drizzy Settles The Score (Drake vs. The Fugees)

A mashup album that pairs Drake with The Fugees’ classic The Score. This mashup marks 15 years since the original release of The Score, and on the project Alexei updates the original Fugees’ album with new verses from Drake, as well as Andre 3000, Lil Wayne, Mos Def, Busta Rhymes, and Q-Tip.

“The Score is easily my favorite hip-hop album of all time and I still listen to it regularly, often before I sit down to work on my own music,” says Alexei. “To keep it exciting after 15 years, I decided to spice it up a bit. The Score has texture and soul that you don’t find much in today’s production. Put that and Drake together, and you have an incredibly fun listen.”

Should be  very interesting listen. Inevitably, there will be those that are ‘outraged’ at ‘desecrating’ a classic but give it a chance first as Alexei is certainly a talented dude, and I’m sure he’ll retain the essence and brilliance of the original.

Lauryn Hill and The Roots Cover Bob Marley’s Is This Love

It’s always great to hear this Bob Marley classic, but when it’s performed by the brilliant but elusive Lauryn Hill, there’s a whole new experience to enjoy.

As you’d rightfully expect, Lauryn stamps her authority on the track with a great performance, making it sound as if it was written for her in the first place. Ably backed by The Roots, this is a performance that’s well worth watching.

R&B Fridays: Episode 65

19 tracks from 19 different artists this week tells you that this episode is stacked with variety. Mostly established names too (at least in the R&B Fridays series!), so this is definitely one to be getting involved with.

As per usual routine, let’s catch up with the R&B week gone by: the new Rihanna single, Ne-Yo’s latest video, hugely anticipated visuals for Bruno Mars’ debut single, the official tracklisting for Bruno’s debut album, much-delayed video from Auburn, and finally the latest collab from Taio Cruz and Tinchy Stryder.

Lauryn Hill – Repercussions

No idea whether this is new material or an unreleased track, but it’s always marvellous to hear something fresh from her. She really is the female Andre 3000, in that she’s immensely talented and yet hardly ever releases anything new these days. Judging by the quality of this track (it’s pretty good!) I’m guessing that this is unreleased from back when she was awesome (she’s too bonkers for me to believe she can come up with the goods now tbh).
