Azad Right-Intuition

The talented Azad Right is back, and he’s got another excellent sample in tow. Having introduced himself with the assistance of The xx’s Intro, Azad’s latest effort borrows from yet another UK favourite as he selects Jamie Woon’s Spirits for accompaniment here.

Azad utilises the natural melancholy of the production superbly throughout this one, conveying disappointment, sadness and negativity in his voice to emphasis the failed relationship-centric lyricism. There’s plenty of relatability here, and the clear personal touch in the lyrics and the delivery makes the most of the dark synths and sombre percussion, with the overall end product being another top effort from the fast-rising rapper.

Jamie Woon-Lady Luck (Hudson Mohawke’s Schmink Wolf Re-fix)

I’ve seen this fella’s name here and there, but never actually got around to checking out any of his music. Having come across this track however, I’m a little disappointed in myself: Jamie’s got some talent, and considerable buzz over here in the UK to boot. He’s got a very unique crossover style, blending soul, R&B and an alternative vibe together into a harmonic package that delivers some intruiging listening.

This remix grabs those soulful vocals and slides them alongside a pounding production with predominantly electronic overtones. The slow, driving bass hits move this song along nicely, and combine with the synth work to emphasise the passion in Woon’s vocals. Worth a listen for an eclectic blend of electronic and soul.
