Ronson’s album is only a few days away, and personally this was the track I was looking forward to the most. Material from D’Angelo is so rare these days that any feature of his is treated with the highest regard, especially one on a producer’s track/album whereby he’s likely to monopolise vocal duty.
He doesn’t let down either, despite Mark Ronson clearly doing his best to take D’Angelo out of his comfort zone with a techno-influenced, retro-inspired production. As the song grows, the complimentarity of the beat and vocals also grows as D’Angelo seems to connect with the production increasingly well. A very eclectic, diverse track that will satisfy both pop and soul fans.
