When the original version of this track was released, it was undeniably a great listen and whilst it’s been hideously overplayed since, this video certainly offers a welcome refresh of the song.
This remix was originally premiered in a lyric video a few months back, whilst the original video was released months prior to that. This video is essentially the same as the original, with lots of bright cityscapes and nighttime scenery, though there are a few extra espionage-style scenes thrown in to this version. Of course, the Wiz appearance is a new addition too, though it’s done fairly unremarkably with his section being rather generic and somewhat uninspired. Can’t fault his actual verse too much though, as whilst it’s nothing groundbreaking, it slides onto the tricky production well enough. Worth a watch if you’re a fan of the original.
Seemingly the official remix, Wiz unexpectedly jumps onto Cee-Lo’s very enjoyable single from his recent Lady Killer album.
Although the video is essentially a glorified lyric video, it’s done in a pretty creative and unique way that gives it a little more than the usual lyric videos. I was a big fan of the original, particularly because of its marvellous production that has a real power and atmosphere about it.
Wiz comes through with a solid verse that fits nicely with the mood and vibe of the track, and the production seems to have been slightly tweaked too with the inclusion of an additional synth melody and slightly slower percussion. Worth a listen for fans of the original.
Genuine reason on the delay this week: I wasn’t happy with the amount of good quality material as of yesterday afternoon, but the R&B/pop world has delivered in the last 24 hours or so to make sure that situation has improved.
A few interesting remixes this week, with over a third of this week’s tracks being of the remix variety. Other great tracks in there too, making this an R&B Friday that you’ll forgive for being a little late to the party.
Taken from their No More Idols album which is set for release tomorrow, Chase & Status have hooked up with the Lady Killer himself Cee-Lo Green. You can go to their Youtube page and preview the whole album right now. I’ve been hearing a lot of talk about the Dizzee track and have had a few people saying it’s going to be massive (it is), well Murray posted this waaay back in the summer, so if you’d like to get your hands on that click here.
Anyway, back to this track, It’s quite a surprising collaboration as I’d have never thought I’d see Cee-Lo anywhere near a Dubstep single. His vocals work perfectly over Chase & Status’ big dubstep production though, leaving us with a track that just has that ‘epic’ feeling.
Cee-Lo doesn’t hang around when it comes to videos, and has fired out another one not long after releasing Bright Lights, Bigger City.
This is a much more pop-oriented effort, and accordingly comes packed with vibrancy and colour in both the video and the vocals. Whilst I preferred the stylings of the Bright Lights, tracks like this really project the positivity Cee-Lo’s vocals possess, and make for good listening from time to time.
Exactly as I pictured this video would be: lots of grand night scenery, lots of excitement and a generally cool vibe running through the whole thing. The big, epic feel of the track is perfectly encapsulated with a sprawling, busy and stimulating video that captures the essence of the track nicely and adds a fitting visual context. It really reminds of the R&B video style of the early 00′s, but on a bigger scale and obviously accompanied by a powerful pop-soul song instead.
It’s fair to say that ‘bright lights, bigger city’ is the perfect summation of the entire audio-visual experience. The audio can, and should, be roped out of here.
How good is Cee-Lo?! Live on Radio 1, Cee-Lo took on the Kings of Leon folk-gospel-rock-alternative-pop track with great results, delivering a rendition that is definitely worthy of a listen. We shouldn’t really be surprised by anything this guy can do, but it is genuinely shocking just how well his voice fits onto this track: I’d love to hear a studio version! As there’s no download available for this, I’ve instead thrown in the artwork for his latest single, for which the audio can be found here.
Stacked episode this week, with some huge mainstream singles alongside great material from underappreciated artists. Quality wise, it’s one of the strongest R&B Fridays of recent months for sure: one of those where you could easily grab everything on offer.
Cee-Lo has taken to his Youtube channel to preview his album, letting loose of short snippets of each track. Expecting a lot from this album on the strength of his build-up work, and the preview certainly helps to create a little more anticipation.
Hotly-anticipated visuals for Cee-Lo’s very popular track. In a bit of a rush, so you’ll have to play reviewer and check this one out for yourself! Audio can be found here.
This song is something special. The original has been catching some real buzz over the last few days, and 50 Cent took the time to drop a verse on it recently. Cee-Lo is at his absolute best on this one, bringing his distinctive vocals to a defiant, uptempo and entertaining track that is almost impossible to dislike. It’s got great production too, having been put together by Bruno Mars/The Smeezingtons.
F**k You should realistically have a ton of fans, click below to make sure you’re one of them.
The 62nd episode of everyone’s favourite R&B dose brings you a bunch of big names and big tracks.
Before clicking on, be sure to have a look through the R&B-related posts from the week gone by: a great collab from Sean Garrett and Drake, visuals for Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj’s Bottoms Up, the first single from Lloyd’s upcoming album and finally Jay Sean’s new video.
All done? Proud of you. Click on and reward yourself.
A huge stack of new/unreleased Slim Thug tracks hit the internet over the weekend. I’m not posting them all as I’m not into Slim enough to get every single one, but I picked out the most interesting features and ran with them. Take your pick below.
Here’s the deal: I haven’t heard this song, I haven’t watched the video and I haven’t really thought this post out. What I do know is that Eva Mendes is in this video.
This dropped over the weekend, but having been pretty busy for the last few days I didn’t quite get around to writing this up. Came out of nowhere too, and I had no idea this was even in the pipeline! Also, is he Cee-Lo or Cee-Lo Green? I keep seeing different references to his name, and I’m getting confused.
Looking forward to giving this mixtape a listen, especially as its rare for someone of Cee-Lo’s ‘genre’/style to drop a mixtape. Fantastic news for us though given the man’s undeniable talent, further embellished by the strength of his recent stuff (especially Georgia!). Don’t miss out!
Good amount of stuff in here for your enjoyment, without swarming you with too many tracks. As ever, there’s a lot of variety with some upcomers, newcomers and established artists all contributing this week.
Everybody and their pets recognise those brilliantly distinctive vocals of Mr. Cee-Lo Green. That huge voice resonates with everyone, and the Goodie Mob/Gnarls Barkley centrepiece lets his latest single loose on the music world.
Loving this on first listen, with a bouncy jazz-inspired production that compliments Cee-Lo’s soulful, piercing voice perfectly to create an energetic, yet sophisticated, all-round product. This is one to wake you up in the morning, perk you up in the afternoon, and get dancing to in the evening.
Bruno is dropping an official EP next week (loving the artwork!), and here goes one of the tracks from it. I’d normally save this for R&B Fridays but trust me; there is a LOT more Bruno coming tomorrow and this is too good to hold from you.
Last week’s R&BF readers will remember a brilliant Bruno track by the name of Otherside and this would be the final version of that. It’s also even better which says an awful lot. From start to finish, it’s a fantastically eclectic experience that melds R&B, indie, soul, pop and hip-hop together into one energetic and enjoyable song.
Very, very good chance that this could be Bruno’s breakout track as far as his own career goes. Really good track to suit anyone’s taste, and definitely one to turn to full volume in the car!
Talk about late. This track was on Common’s release from nearly a year back and has been given the video treatment. It’s one of my favourite tracks from the album and is worth checking out.
