Vampire Weekend Cover Fight For This Love

I hated the original. If you’re a fan of this site, you’ll know I’m not someone who immediately disregards anything mainstream/pop and do try to give everything a chance. However, the original version of this track was just an awful piece of music: Lazy, bedroom production, rubbish vocals, more cliches than your average wedding vow, and a hook that predominantly consisted of ONE word.

Phew. Anyway, Vampire Weekend try and make some semblance of a song with minimal useful raw materials, adding in bouncy and WORTHWHILE instrumentation that blends horns, guitars and drums to give the track some credibility. Unfortunately, there’s only so much they can do with the nursery rhyme lyrics, but it’s not their fault.

Vampire Weekend- Holiday

The third video from their latest album Contra; Holiday is as charming as it is original. The track itself has an upbeat and laid-back quality to it, and when with the fun, light-hearted nature of the video makes you feel all the better for watching it. Although the album sometimes gets carried away with its tweaky, ditsy layering without at times delivering enough depth, there are a few absolute gems that will be making their way onto many a summer playlist.
