Nothing to really recap on in the world of R&B this past week, it’s been a rather slow one.
Wait, what? Why is Indi in charge of this week’s R&B Friday and where the hell is Ajay? Neither of the artists actually involved in this song feature in the video, which is an interesting move.
What it does feature is a lot of ladies miming the lyrics of the song, which is both interesting and funny. It works for portions of the song, but in others it looks stupid (in Game’s closing verse, one girl is miming WAY too obviously). Good to see something different though.

With Ajay currently incarcerated in some grotty South African prison, your weekly R&B fix has been left with me to try and fill. Now I may not have anywhere near the amount of knowledge with this genre, I can however appreciate a good R&B song.
I’ve sorted through over 50 R&B songs over the last week and have narrowed it down to the best 24 and for that reason you shouldn’t at all be dissuaded from clicking on. We have some real gems for you, from the big names, to many a newcomer. Another nice one from Game. These two seem to work quite well together, and Robin’s smooth vocals co-exist superbly with Game’s rough tones. Great Dr. Dre beat on this one, and definitely a better style for him than the Neptunes beats he’s been trying recently. Lyrically it’s alright, but it’s never anything too complex from Game.

Two new Shyne joints for your playlists today. Is he getting better? Yes.
The first, Roller Song, is rumored to be from his upcoming album Guess Who which is tentatively set for a summer ’10 release. The beat is heavy and Shyne goes in (and he won’t thank me for saying this) almost 50 Cent/The Massacre-esq. Unfortunately this is a clean version of the track, but really looking forward to the dirty version.
Secondly, (and I am unable to confirm whether this is on Guess Who or not) Shyne teams up with Robin Thicke for Pushin’ It. I like this less, but it feels more geared towards the mainstream audiences so I imagine it will have its supporters.

Decent track on first listen. A lot of people will recognise the hook too, as it’s been used for a few songs before (notably a Ja Rule track of the same name). In a bit of a rush here, but on first listen it was pretty good stuff.

One of the better tracks from Robin’s recent album, the video is a good fit for the audio. Well, at least Robin’s bit is; Snoop’s verse visuals don’t really seem to fit, but it’s still a decent video (enjoying Snoop’s outfit in the scenes with him and Thicke in the same shot though, pretty nice).
Easy to watch, and easy to listen to. Can’t go wrong with that combo. Audio can be snatched from here.

Even after letting loose of 3 Bruno Mars-related goodies in the last 24-hours, this may as well be R&B Fridays: Bruno Mars edition. A bunch of unreleased Bruno material leaked last weekend (he has 11/20 tracks in here!), and the sheer quality of it makes it dominant in this episode. Make sure you check out the amazing track from his upcoming EP beforehand.
Good material from a range of other artists too, including Ciara and The-Dream. I never say this on any of my posts because I don’t want to ‘force it’, but I genuinely think you guys should be looking to grab everything in this week’s episode, such is the quality.
I’m really proud of this week’s episode, as it’s absolutely packed with playlist dominators, and the only way to do justice to these tracks was to spend time on the reviews: make it worth my time and click on.

Sorry for the delay guys, as you know we were hacked on Friday night so I couldn’t get this out.
A nice even 20 tracks of new stuff for you this week, and lots of variety in there too in terms of styles and artists. Probably leaning more towards well-known artists this week, although there are still a couple of newbies for you to start getting into.
The quality is really high in this one, so be sure to give most/all of it a go. I’ve kindly weeded out most of the rubbish stuff, irrespective of artist calibre: I’m feeling ruthless! (Grr, roar etc)

As you well know by now, I don’t write album/mixtape reviews or feature articles unless it’s something very worthwhile. It’s a lot of time and dedication for me, so you know there’s a damn good reason behind it right? Right.
OTU followers will be familiar with this duo (and all you newcomers need to get educated, fast). We’ve followed them for quite some time, and they’ve really stepped their game up in the last 2/3 months with this remix project. If you’ve missed any of the utterly awesome remixes they’ve put out, click on to find the links for recapping.

Couple of collabos from Robin Thicke’s upcoming album, one with Kid Cudi and another with Snoop Dogg. The Cudi collabo is decent, and definitely worth grabbing. Liking Cudi’s contribution and the hook. The Snoop Dogg collab is another good one, and comes on a slightly slower tip.

Couple of new tracks from Robin’s Sex Therapy that surfaced this weekend. I’d normally save these for R&B Fridays but the strength of the features leads me to believe that might be a stupid idea. The first is with Nicki Minaj, and from the title suggests it might be a departure in style for Robin. The other is the highly-anticipated track with Jay-Z, which is also set to be the next single from the album.

There’s a lot of content, and although not every song is amazing, a lot of it is big news and/or a big deal: an Alexandra Burke/Ne-Yo collab, a 15-year old who is better than most other R&B artists, TV stars and a lot more.
