R&B Fridays: Episode 121

A shorter episode this time around, but more than counterbalanced by the glut of R&B, pop and soul material released throughout the week.

Two doses of The Weeknd were made available, the first an official collaboration with Florence + The Machine, and the second some brand new material expected to find a home on his Echoes of Silence project. In addition, Marsha Ambrosius released a new mixtape of rarities and remixes, upcoming UK producers Star One dropped off their new EP, and finally a great slice of soul from the talented Rob Murat.

R&B Fridays: Episode 117

A shorter episode than usual, but still packed full of big names in the current R&B/pop/hip-hop scene, including a couple of unexpected collaborations. Similarly, only a small recap is required from this week’s posts, with the official relese of Skylar Grey’s second set of solo visuals, and a very promising new mixtape from Jay Sean.

R&B Fridays: Episode 110

A nice mixture of soul tracks and R&B stuff in this week’s episode, all from acts everyone should be familiar with.

No posts of note to recap on from the week gone by, though there are a few news bites, particularly Chris Brown’s announcement of a hip-hop mixtape to be released soon, and Drake confirming the first official single from Take Care is set to drop any day now.

R&B Fridays: Episode 107

Pretty much a two-artist episode this week, with 50% of the episode made up of new Chris Brown material, and the other half being remixes of/involving The Weeknd. Two different ends of the R&B spectrum for sure, and hopefully that should keep you all rather satisfied.

Recap from the week’s posts: one of soul’s shining lights, Jesse Boykins III, dropped off a new EP, Drake released an official video for his much-loved (and remixed) Marvin’s Room, and finally Patrick Stump grabbed Lupe Fiasco for his next single from his debut album.

R&B Fridays: Episode 97

Lots of slow jams and collaborations in this week’s episode, some of which are certainly noteworthy not only for their lineup, but also as they’re potentially quite prominent singles from upcoming albums.

Recap from this week’s postings: a new Jagged Edge mixtape, Ryan Leslie’s latest video/single, visuals for J*Davey’s fantastic Raincheck, and finally a very unexpected UK-US collab between David Banner, Estelle and Daley.

Swizz Beatz-Freaky I Iz ft. Chris Brown, Kevin McCall & Diesel

Swizz Beatz hits us with another Monster Mondays special, this time enlisting Chris Breezy, Kevin McCall (of Deuces fame) and Diesel (who I’m not really familiar with).

Originally I was pretty sceptical about Swizz’s jacking of the weekly trend, but in fairness to him the material he’s put out every week has been extremely strong, including this very song. The production on this I’d go as far to say is exceptional, I wouldn’t have even known it was a Swizz Beatz production if I’d just heard it randomly (this is a good thing). Chris Brown slays the track as you’d expect which is supplemented by some good rhymes by the two rappers involved.

You can go listen to this yourself, as well as download it, by clicking here.

Chris Brown, Tyga and Kevin McCall-Deuces Video

Visuals for the much-praised single from the Fan of a Fan mixtape. Definitely a good track, and the glimpse I had of the video looked like a nice fit for the audio.

Track can be acquired here if you missed it previously.

Chris Brown/Tyga

I’m a little late on this one, it’s been a busy time – forgive me.

Yup another song by these two, this one being the best one thus far (big accomplishment as I loved Holla At Me and G Shit), rumour has it these two are doing an album together, a plan I hope comes to fruition. This is a different type of song to the other two, with this more catered to the females on a more R&B tip, which will hopefully satisfy those of you who are waiting impatiently for this week’s instalment of R&B Fridays.
