Vampire Weekend Cover Fight For This Love

I hated the original. If you’re a fan of this site, you’ll know I’m not someone who immediately disregards anything mainstream/pop and do try to give everything a chance. However, the original version of this track was just an awful piece of music: Lazy, bedroom production, rubbish vocals, more cliches than your average wedding vow, and a hook that predominantly consisted of ONE word.

Phew. Anyway, Vampire Weekend try and make some semblance of a song with minimal useful raw materials, adding in bouncy and WORTHWHILE instrumentation that blends horns, guitars and drums to give the track some credibility. Unfortunately, there’s only so much they can do with the nursery rhyme lyrics, but it’s not their fault.

R&B Fridays: Episode 40

40 episodes. Wow.

Click on for a 21-track barrage of music, including new music from Lloyd, Jagged Edge, Cheryl Cole and a stunner from R. Kelly. Before you do all that, make sure you check out the R&B Throwback I dropped earlier this week from Sterling Simms. Done that? Good.

FYI, Megan Fox has absolutely nothing to do with this episode. She just came for the 40th episode celebrations.

3 Words-What The Hell?

Never did I think Cheryl Cole would make it onto this site.  I checked out this video on a recommendation, and it’s actually rather good. Very artistic, and superb use of the double vision technique, the video is a far cry from what you’d expect from Cheryl (or pop music for that matter). There are some obvious similarites with the Love Lockdown video, but that’s not strictly a bad thing.

The plaudits don’t end there either: the song is actually not too bad largely thanks to some good production from will.i.am, and the track is about 50 million times better than the horrible, incredibly boring, unimaginative tripe that was her first single. I’d genuinely recommend people checked this out, and I was (and still am) shocked at the quality of this video. Good work.
