Slim The Mobster and Xzibit-Don’t Believe You

Very interesting. Despite being namechecked a very long time ago by Dr. Dre as someone he was working heavily with for Detox, it’s fair to say there doesn’t seem to be much material coming from Slim in light of that glowing endorsement/working relationship.

Hence, I’m sure this will interest many of you. Slim comes through with some decent rhymes for a relative newcomer, and certainly exhibits (no pun intended) a rapping style that will certainly suit Dre’s own flow. He’s not going to blow anyone’s mind lyrically, but a duo’s chemistry tends to be more important than individual ability, and it appears they’ve got along well enough for Dre to keep him around. Nottz serves up a great production here, with a clear structure, unfussy sound and powerful melodies driving the track along, whilst Xzibit tags along for a typically-aggressive hook. Decent all-rounder.

Xzibit/Trick Trick - Highest Form Of Understanding

Despite being extremely underwhelmed with a lot of Xzibit’s recent music (I absolutely love some of his older albums), I still do check out his music in the hope that he still has it in him to deliver music that has actual re-playability value. Well I’m glad I checked this out as he’s come back with a track that is actually thought provoking, which is something I feel he’s lacked in recent times! This is off his upcoming album, MMX, and features Detroit rapper Trick Trick.

Bliss N Eso / Xzibit - People Up On It

What is it with X on features today? Australian hip-hop powerhouse enlist the West coast legend for a joint from their recently released (and very good) Running On Air.

Aussie rap is something which we often sleep on over here, but as I demonstrated with Hilltop Hoods at the turn of the year, we are stupid to do so.

I always go straight for the bangers on unfamiliar projects (I know – It’s a bad habit) and both lyrically and production-wise this joint achieves that. I could have in fact dropped various others from the album, but wanted to give you a familiar name you could run with. Baby steps here people, baby steps.

Statik Selektah, Termanology, Xzibit and Cassidy Collab

The first leak from the upcoming album from Statik and Term (under the name 1982) comes with a couple of heavy-hitters on the feature. Statik drops off an interesting production, which has some of those gritty elements mixed in with a jazzy feel. Pretty unique stuff, and nice to hear him mixing it up like that. The verses are all pretty likeable, with Termanology probably just shading it ahead of Xzibit for the best one.

Sunday's Classic Collabo: Sway & King Tech - The Anthem

The very definition of classic collaboration right here, this infamous track features: RZA, Tech N9ne, Eminem, Xzibit, Pharoahe Monch, Kool G Rap, Jayo Felony, Chino XL & KRS-One. Kind of forgot about Classic Collabo this week, so hope this makes up for it! Amazing that this amount of stars came through and did this track, let alone a video! Check out the crazy visuals, and grab this vintage track below.

Snoop Dogg/Xzibit/Ice Cube - Live From L.A.

A short version of this song was used for a BET show (also called Live From L.A.) and the video for this track premiered on that show some 11 years ago! We have only now managed to get our hands on the a cd quality version of this track, which features three West Coast legends. Grab this nice summer song below.

Quick Blast: Two New Hip-Hop Collabos

Couple of collabos here with some decent line-ups on them. Good to get some new music from Bishop Lamont, and the Lakers Anthem should make for pretty good listening too. Pretty tired right now, so forgive the ‘quick blast’.

Xzibit-Hurt Locker Video

Been looking forward to these visuals for quite some time. Have really enjoyed the audio since it dropped in December, and X comes full force on this one. The video is dark and moody, which fits the track absolutely perfectly.

Audio is here, don’t sleep on this.

A Couple Of Hip-Hop Posse Cuts

Whenever I look for a random/pointless picture for a non-artist specific post, I always end up with cowboys. Maybe we should turn the site into a country music hub.

Anyway, in complete contrast to that, pick up two tracks below featuring 5 rappers on each. One is full of Eastside rappers, and the other with 5 from the West which makes for a nice bit of variety for you.

Xzibit-Phenom, New Single From MMX

Don’t hear enough from Xzibit these days. The last track I caught from him was Hurt Locker back in December, which got plenty of plays in my iTunes. This is another good one from X, and comes on a little bit of a ‘lighter’ tip than Hurt Locker. Very listenable though, and hopefully we’ll be getting more from the upcoming MMX album.

Keep a close ear to the production: it’s interesting to note how Game’s been disappointing on this exact type of beat recently, but X takes it on pretty comfortably without coming off as ‘radio-friendly’.

Notorious Indi’s Best of ‘09

2009 was one hell of an interesting year. We saw the comeback of Eminem, albums by the 2 other big names of hip-hop in Jay-Z and 50 Cent, and once again we waited all year for Dr. Dre’s Detox which never came. It’s fair to say that despite this the year hasn’t been dominated by the big boys and we’ve seen a gradual change in hip hop – the gangsta rap of previous years has steadily evolved into what can be described as ‘Hip Hop Hipsters’. Kanye led the way back in 2004 and by 2009 the likes of Lupe Fiasco, Kid Cudi, Wale and Asher Roth have emerged.

Must say, I’m a little surprised. This tracks actually bangs pretty hard, and is a nice hip-hop joint. Didn’t see this coming at all (no disrespect, just out of the blue!) and it’s definitely a well-produced track which X takes on with some muscle.
