Mobb Deep-Waterboarding (Prod. Alchemist)

Being the Mobb Deep stan I am, readers will understand the enormity of this song when I claim it’s the closet thing I’ve heard to that 90′s Mobb since… well… the 90′s. Unbelievably left off their recently released Black Cocaine EP, Waterboarding combines that classic eerie cocktail of Alchemist behind the boards and P spitting that harrowing fire which once upon a time made him top 3 in the game (What up Indi). The piercing, sporadic piano keys, low-lying baseline supplemented by jazzy horns replicates that gutter sound all Mobb fans are clamouring for on their upcoming full length LP. This is that QB shit.

Curren$y and Alchemist-Covert Coup EP

Should be a very solid listen. The Alchemist consistently serves up great beats, and being on the boards for the entire project commands attention. Curren$y certainly can get it done on the mic when he’s on form, and hopefully he’ll be on song for this EP.

I’ve caught two of the tracks from this to date (Full Metal and the Freddie Gibbs collab), both of which were very enjoyable listens with strong productions and a little more diversity from Curren$y on his raps. Hence, I’ve got high hopes for this (free) EP and would certainly recommend grabbing this below.

Mobb Deep Back Together In The Studio [Video]

We’ve seen the pictures, now here’s some footage from Havoc and his recently-released partner in crime Prodigy back in the studio tearing it up again.

The real question on all Mobb Deep fan’s minds is what Mobb Deep we are going to get from now on? Before P went to jail, releases such as his anticipated H.N.I.C.2 and the unexpected Product Of The 80′s saw P returning to that signature, gutter QB sound which the Mobb pioneered. However, we all know what went before; the nightmare which was G-Unit Records and 2006′s Blood Money. Giving Raekwon a call might not be such a bad idea…

Let’s hope P got that fire back in his belly after his stint in the pen!

Reks-Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme [Album Review]

“Reks’ third offering in the shape of Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme delivers to the underground fan with a range of subject matter, on-point rhymes, lyrical dexterity and Reks’ best selection of beats to date.”

The artist:

Born Corey Isaiah Christie in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Reks dropped out of college to pursue his dream in hip-hop. After taking the Boston underground scene by storm, Reks landed a deal with Landspeed Records who delivered his now decade-old debut Along Came The Chosen in 2001. The success which followed gave touring opportunities alongside respected emcees including Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Redman, De La Soul and his idol KRS-One. Reks’ second effort Grey Hairs (2008) is frequently cited as a classic amongst underground heads spearheaded by the impeccable Say Goodnight with legendary producer DJ Premier.

Prodigy Home After 3 Years In Prison

Mobb Deep’s Prodigy is finally home after a 3 year sentence for fire-arms possession. Here is the first footage from P, straight after leaving the pen.

Worth checking Havoc and long-time collaborator Alchemist’s Twitters for updates. Check out the pictures of P already back in the studio! Clicky.

Reks-Why Cry ft. Styles P

Latest release from Reks’ upcoming LP Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme dropping March 8th.

Reks tears apart a screechy Alchemist beat, whilst The Ghost’s vocals are always welcome in dragging a joint deep down into the gutter. Certainly a head-nodder this one, but was always going to have to go some to top the lead single.

Go take a listen to the album before you buy over at Amazon. Absolutely mouthwatering.

7L and Esoteric, Alchemist and Evidence-Drawbar 1-2 (+Album Info)

Great stuff. A line-up to get those hip-hop heads drooling, this track brings together some of the finest to great effect. The production is pretty decent, with a carnival-esque melody providing a slightly creepy, slightly jovial backdrop that allows the rappers to take the track and move it nicely into the lyrical directions.

Grab the track below, and click on further to see the tracklist for the upcoming 7LES album 1212 (check it out, some of the features are great). Album artwork is the picture included in this post.

Quick Blast(s): Rakaa (of Dilated Peoples)

Rakaa from Dilated Peoples is dropping his debut solo LP titled Crown Of Thorns on July 20th.

It will be interesting to see how well he holds his own on a full length LP without the rest of his DP counterparts. On the evidence (see what I did there!?) of these two drops though, I have a feeling he will be just fine.

On these two we have production from frequent Mobb Deep collaborators Alchemist and Sid Roams so that is a straight up win for me on that front. Vocally, Rakaa enlists Evidence, Defari and Fashawn. Again, win. Two very different tracks. Two very different outcomes. Looking forward to this.

Eminem, Royce Da 5’9″ and Mr. Porter Freestyle

Some much anticipated audio from their recent appearance on Tim Westwood. 9 minutes from 3 of Detroit’s finest, and all a beat supplied by the excellent Alchemist. Doesn’t get too much better for the hip-hop heads, so be sure to grab that audio below.

Raekwon + Mobb Deep + Alchemist = OMG

I thought collaborations like this didn’t exist anymore!

Apologies for skimping a little bit on the AZ post, but I had to get this out to the Heads out there ASAP.

Alchemist drops a terrifying backdrop for Havoc, Raekwon and always-appreciated Prodigy verses. Similar kinda chorus to Method Man’s All I Need from back in ’94 so you can imagine the track before you’ve even clicked the glorious, hip-hop-reviving red text below.

No idea where it’s from and quite frankly I don’t care. Just keep ‘em coming!
