R&B Fridays: Episode 107

Pretty much a two-artist episode this week, with 50% of the episode made up of new Chris Brown material, and the other half being remixes of/involving The Weeknd. Two different ends of the R&B spectrum for sure, and hopefully that should keep you all rather satisfied.

Recap from the week’s posts: one of soul’s shining lights, Jesse Boykins III, dropped off a new EP, Drake released an official video for his much-loved (and remixed) Marvin’s Room, and finally Patrick Stump grabbed Lupe Fiasco for his next single from his debut album.

R&B Fridays: Episode 105

Being on time is the new being late. Or something like that. Gone with a slightly different approach for this week’s episode, as I sympathise with the mainstream folk who come looking for some party/chart tracks, and leave empty handed. I’ve chucked in a few artists/tracks I don’t particularly like, but will certainly go down well with the mainstreamers, and of course there’s still a healthy dose of music that’s actually good too.

Onto the recap from this week, and three noteworthy posts: Frank Ocean dropped some highly anticipated visuals for Novacane, Katy Perry released an entertaining video for her latest single, and most importantly The Weeknd dropped off some superb new material.

R&B Fridays: Episode 103

Better late than never eh? There are genuine reasons, but forget all of that rubbish: it’s here now, and that’s what counts.

No recap this week, so there’ll be none of your time wasted up here, and instead you can get to clicking below and grabbing new music from Akon, Lloyd and more.

To quote the mighty Brick Tamland, ‘OK, let’s go!’.

Big Sean On Comparisons To Soulja Boy

Big Sean is questioned on apparent comparisons to Soulja Boy after his flow on Big Nut Bust (of which we have two separate versions. Here for the Travis Baker version or Here for the more stripped down version) . A must watch just to check Sean’s hilarious reaction out, especially when he realises he’s just dissed Soulja.

R&B Fridays: Episode 76

Whilst the rest of the music world seems to have taken a much-needed breather this week (album releases aside), there’s been no shortage of new and/or unreleased R&B and pop material in the 76th instalment of R&B Fridays.

The week has already seen a great new video from Tank, two new remixes from T-Pain, a captivating video for Bruno Mars’ Grenade, the UK’s own Chipmunk working with Chris Brown, another release from Trey Songz’s upcoming mixtape, Keri Hilson and Kanye West getting together for a new remix, Keyshia Cole and Nicki Minaj’s collabo video, and the unexpected release of a John Legend and Estelle EP.

Lots up there, and lots down below. Click on.

Soulja Boy and 50 Cent-Mean Mug Video

Soulja Boy is improving. He’s obviously no lyrical great, but compare this to his first few songs, and there’s no question that he’s getting better: inevitable given the fact he started at the bottom of the lyrical ladder, and is still so young. Great selection of beat too, just a shame it didn’t go to more deserving folk.

Despite all that, this song gets plays from me for one reason: the hook is HILARIOUS. ‘Rob ME? N**** we gon’ rob YOU!‘. Priceless. Decent enough video though, with a grimey, industrial theme that should really have been used for a better song. Audio is here, along with the first video for the track.

50 Cent & Soulja Boy - Mean Mug

This was inevitable really…50 let loose the audio for this on his Twitter earlier, and now the video too. I can see this developing into a guilty pleasure of a song for me. Shhh don’t tell anyone I said that. Audio for this is below.

R&B Fridays: Episode 65

19 tracks from 19 different artists this week tells you that this episode is stacked with variety. Mostly established names too (at least in the R&B Fridays series!), so this is definitely one to be getting involved with.

As per usual routine, let’s catch up with the R&B week gone by: the new Rihanna single, Ne-Yo’s latest video, hugely anticipated visuals for Bruno Mars’ debut single, the official tracklisting for Bruno’s debut album, much-delayed video from Auburn, and finally the latest collab from Taio Cruz and Tinchy Stryder.

R&B Fridays: Episode 50

Many of your Fridays have been centered around this OTU institution, and I’m glad to deliver this 50th episode of the hugely popular series. I’ve enjoyed writing it as much as you have reading it.

Before you see what’s in store this week, I’ve actually sprinkled a lot of R&B in other posts this week to build up some R&B love prior to this episode that you should check for. First off, go here for Ne-Yo’s new single. After that, check out the final version of Alicia Keys’ Rapture, Estelle’s latest single, a superb track from The-Dream, amongst other R&B-influenced tracks that have been posted.

Done all that? Good on you. Time to get the rest!

Snoop Dogg, Soulja Boy and Bun B-Pronto Remix

I make absolutely no apologies for this. The original version was a big guilty pleasure track for me a little while ago (we all have them!) and Bun adds a guest verse to this remix from the upcoming More Malice re-release. It’s pop rap, I’m not denying that for a second but it’s got a good beat, is catchy as hell, and frankly would be great in a club.

Stop looking at me like that.

R&B Fridays: Episode 35

Quite the range of acts once again, both in terms of popularity and age, with the boy Justin Bieber making an appearance as well as veterans Jagged Edge. Not too much range in the quality though: it’s predominantly good stuff as I’ve taken time to root out (most of) the poor stuff. Any crap stuff is just there to make the rest look better.

I’ve been listening to a lot of R&B this week, so click on to sort yourself out for the coming week.
