Pill’s been a little quiet recently, but returns to prominence with a nice contribution to Rihanna and Drake’s huge single. As he did with his Rude Boy remix, Pill takes on a popular production with ease and sounds completely at home on the beat: a great sign for an upcoming rapper.
Personally, I’ve grown bored of the original (there are only so many times I can hear ‘oh na na’) so this undoubtedly makes for a welcome refresh of the track, and will certainly do the same for those of you also tiring with the original.

Pill’s definitely one of my favourites from the XXL Freshmen, and I’ve got high hopes that this guy can really make some moves in hip-hop. He’s pretty raw, but has a lot of similarites to a younger T.I in both his flow and lyrical style. High praise indeed.
With his debut album The Medicine in the works, he lets loose of the first single from it here. Enlisting Iyaz was a good move for sure, as not only does he deliver a good hook but he’ll definitely help get Pill more mainstream exposure. The raps are good, especially for a mainstream-aimed track, and will serve as a good introduction/reminder/confirmation of Pill’s ability.

Two tracks here, the first a collabo between the three artists and the second a track that features just Pill. Liking both of these, it’s got that typical definitely not mainstream but also definitely not underground sound that seems to be my specialist subject!

I’ve got a lot of time for Pill, and I’ve been eagerly awaiting this mixtape for quite some time. The freestyles I’ve heard from him are very good, and he’s certainly one of the best newcomers to the rap game. Anyone looking for someone new to check out should definitely be looking to download this, as I expect Pill will blow up sooner rather than later.

In posting so much alternative stuff recently, I’ve missed some good hip-hop. Pill is one of the XXL Freshmen that I’m enjoying more with each track, and his Rude Boy freestyle should be checked out.
Jeezy drops off a leak from an upcoming mixtape/’movie’ that I sadly haven’t checked yet, whilst Charles releases another good, videogame-sounding track in the build to his new single. Closing up with a diss track from Shyne, interestingly aimed at 50 Cent.

Most of y’all should be familiar with the XXL 10 Freshman thing they do. Last year’s was great, and they were pretty much spot on with them all. I can’t say I know as much about 2 or 3 of this year’s 10, but expect a lot from the ones I am familiar with. I do however find the inclusion of OJ Da Juiceman in a ‘serious’ list to be ridiculous (quiet down Tempest!). For those who haven’t yet checked out who’s in this year, click here.
Anyway, this is a mixtape full of new tracks from these guys and will 100% be worth grabbing. Some of these guys are definitely going to blow up this year, so don’t miss out.
