BET Hip-Hop Awards 2010: The Cyphers

Let’s be honest, the cyphers are the only reason people watch/care about the BET Awards. I mean, does anyone really know who won what last year? Nope, but I bet you could list a few of the cypher rappers.

Great cypher line-ups this year, with the video for the G.O.O.D. Music cypher (Kanye, Common, Big Sean, Pusha T and CyHi Da Prynce) being up here. After the click, there are great cyphers involving Wiz Khalifa, Mickey Factz, Raekwon, Yelawolf, Royce Da 5’9″, Rev Run and family, Ice Cube and family and so on.

For me, the respective winners: Big Sean, Yelawolf, Mickey, Royce and Ice Cube. Honourable mentions to CyHi, Bones Brigante, Diamond and Diggy.

Kuniva (of D12) - Midwest Marauders [Free Mixtape]

That guy from D12 (Kuniva) releases a free mixtape for us to check out the tracklist of which can be viewed after the jump.

Not sure how I feel about this as a massive A Tribe Called Quest fan. Although nice touch with the artwork to include fellow Detroit counterparts’ mug-shots in the background.

Bizarre (Of D12), Kuniva, Royce and Seven The General-Rap's Finest Video

Here’s the official video for Bizarre’s track with Redman, Kuniva, Seven The General & Royce Da 5’9″ (thanks Murray)!

Was a big fan of this track when Ajay first dropped it and the video reflects the grittiness of the song. Little disappointed that there’s no Redman in this video and that his verse has been cut, ah well – at least we still have Royce.

Bizarre has always been true to his name: not only does his penchant for shower caps seem strange, but his lyrical content has always been very unusual. This, however, goes pretty hard.

Biz’s verse isn’t the worst as he brings some real intensity, and the guest verses are all pretty gritty too. This beat definitely bangs, and this is one for the real hip-hop heads to check out. Part-time hip-hop fans need not apply, as this stuff will probably scare you a little.

Underground Hip-Hop Part 10

Woops. It’s been over 2 months since I dropped UGHH. It’s worth the wait though, as regular readers will know that these posts are your best shot of discovering some of the finest upcoming talent and catching a couple of established rappers along the way.

Click on to check out some new (ish) hip-hop of various styles and discover the next big thing. I warn you now, that I’ve been sitting on this stuff for a while so go easy on me if you’ve caught one or two tracks before.

Despite the massive backlog of potential material for this, I’ve tried to keep this shorter than previous episodes to make it a bit more digestable. Nice really aren’t I?
