Illecism-Midgar Music

Given that I consider Final Fantasy 7 the greatest game of all-time, it’s fair to say the name of the track excites me to the point of heavy, uncontrollable urination. Part of the game’s brilliance was the soundtrack, and though I don’t own it and hence can’t pinpoint the sample (if there is one), you definitely get that ‘epic-futuristic’ feel here with an outstanding production: we’re treated to wistful elements alongside electronic samples, adding that futuristic and ‘open’ feel to the track. Illecism brings some real culture and confidence to his rhymes, synergising perfectly with the beat to emphasise the introspective quality of the raps in the right places, and showing some real talent. A fantastic all-rounder.

Illecism-Molotov [Mixtape]

Here I have the latest mixtape, Molotov, from 21 year old underground hip-hop artist Illecism, produced by MF DOOM. Admittedly, when this arrived in my inbox I hadn’t really heard much (one track) from him before, but having given this a couple of listens I’m impressed to say the least: the guy is talented.

It’s by no means perfect and does seem to lose momentum towards the end, but his wordplay, flow and lyrics are something to take note of.  DOOM’s production won’t be something most mainstream fans are used to, eclectic would be the best I could describe it, not that this is a bad thing! Have a listen and see what you think for yourselves:

Or alternatively if Japanese anime is  your thing, you can view a visual mini-movie with the mixtape as the soundtrack , which Illecism himself produced here.
