Two Raekwon Bonus Cuts

With all the excellent album releases already this month (R.E.K.S., Avenger’s Airwaves, :03 From Gold, Lasers) it’s been easy for me to sleep on certain projects. One project which keeps rising to the top though is Rae’s most recent effort, the accomplished Shaolin vs Wu-Tang which continues Rae’s inroads into bringing those 90′s soundscapes back.

Here are two tracks which were left on Rae’s cutting room floor. Wu-Crime has that signature Wu sound and welcomes vocals from GZA and Priest. The second, Your World & My World with Mobb Deep’s Havoc, is somewhat more darker but neither would have sounded out of place on the LP.

Throwback Thursdays Vol 25

Unfortunately I now find myself embroiled within my finals so the next three TT’s may be slightly more on the shorter side. That doesn’t mean for one second I’m going to skimp on the audio side of things though.

As promised from last week, today I’ve got a very clever track from GZA’s critically acclaimed sophomore Liquid Swords (contrary to popular belief, his debut was in fact Words From The Genius in 1991).

Quick Blast: GZA, Masta Killa & Inspectah Deck

Newest track to emerge from DJ Mathematics’ Return of the Wu & Friends. If you missed the inside scoop on the album and the first drop then recap here.

Back on topic, Mathematics lays down a late 80′s real old school beat and pieces together lyrics belonging to none other than the GZA, Masta Killa and Inspectah Deck. Nice Big Daddy Kane sampling. Really like this.

Ajay-182's Best of '09

In what can best be described as a fitting coincidence given the retrospective nature of this particular post, 2009 was very much a year of hindsight. I rediscovered artists I’d neglected, I discovered artists who I’d simply ignored, but most importantly I began to see the fundamental flaw in my appreciation of music (especially hip-hop) and how I probably got it wrong.

Don’t make the same mistakes. Click on to grab some unmissable tracks, and of course my discoveries from the year gone by. I’ve thrown in a couple of lists too, as I know some of you can’t deal with excess reading.

Underground Hip-Hop Part 7

murraycanibus
A clearout of the inbox and BOOM: It throws up another UGHH for the hip-hop heads to enjoy.

This one is (mostly) full of artists who haven’t been featured on the site before, so amidst all the mainstream music that’s been up recently, we’ve gone so underground that you’re gonna need some sort of torch.
