Hip-hop. That’s what (I hope) we’re all here for right? Well it don’t get no better than this. Wu and The LOX come through with their first offering from their upcoming collaborative album Wu-Block. RZA crafts driving horns yet thankfully mixes things up sporadically throughout tailoring things perfectly for each emcees to drop those characteristically heavy bars. Now this is some Supreme Clientele Ghostface. Top stuff.

I don’t normally do this as it’s lazy journalism, and if there’s such a thing I’m sure it’s internet plagiarism too, but this is a brilliantly accurate review which perfectly mirrors my views. Props to The Fader for this.
“Under the clunkily mash-upped moniker DoomStarks, “Victory Laps” originally dropped a few weeks ago on a dead format in a tiny coffin. A lo-fi rip of Madvillain’s “Victory Laps” remix followed shortly thereafter. Today the original hits the internet. It sounds like one would expect it to and exactly what it probably was—two great rappers rapping into protools hundreds of miles away from each other with just enough effort enough to satiate their very loyal fans. The CDQ version hits iTunes tonight. Pre-order now and sell it on eBay to an overenthusiastic European fan who wears a metal mask to his telemarketing job later.”

New mixtape from DJ Kay Slay which features a whole host of familiar names. From the likes of Raekwon, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Styles P, Papoose, Vado, Maino and Ghostface Killah, we can see a huge New York influence on this mixtape (wouldn’t expect any less from Kay Slay!).

Some new Ghost to start things off today from his soon-to-be-released Apollo Kids dropping 21st December.
Characteristic, blaxploitation-inspired production featuring a very memorable Black Thought verse which totally steals the show here. Get your hands on this below.

Hopefully, this reaches you on time this week!
New singles from Keri and Rihanna headline this episode, along with plenty of other tracks from a range of talented artists. Before that, the customary recap: a great track from UK newcomer Talay Riley, Drake’s lead track from his upcoming mixtape, plenty of R&B-related artwork, and finally the official video for Keri Hilson’s Breaking Point.

Haven’t had the time today to go through these sadly, but they’re 4 tracks that I anticipate will be worth checking out for sure. They all include artists that I appreciate, so be sure to give them a go.

Not going to lie, I wasn’t at all impressed by the original of this Swizz Beatz production, however with T.I., Ghostface, Cam’ron and (recently set free from prison) DMX on this, my attention has been attained. Makes the whole track a much more enjoyable experience to my ears, and it should do for yours too. Go download this below.

In case you missed Rae’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II when it dropped last September then after sorting your life out, please find below my favourite joint from the album.
I always think Cold Outside is directly comparable with Rainy Dayz from the album’s father LP; again my favourite track. It features a cold, harrowing beat which Rae and Ghost lay some smooth rhymes all tied together by upcomer Suga Bang Bang.
Some of our favourite people on the Internet over at 365 Albums A Year have put together a fantastic review of Rae’s already-hailed classic. Make sure you check it out.

It makes me laugh how the eclecticism of Monday has been completely wiped away by a barrage of hip-hop releases today. Crazy.
Visuals for the great RZA-produced track from their collaborative Wu-Massacre album (released next week). Haven’t watched this yet, but I expect them to deliver as the track itself is pretty good.

Having been AWOL (great AZ album btw) for the past week or so, what better way than to mark my return with a commonly overlooked beef between two of Brooklyn’s finest MCs.
Firstly, if you’re unfamiliar with the works of Jeru The Damaja then ensure you check my throwback before proceeding here.

I’m filling in for Indi this week, as he’s a little busy today: good luck with the sex change!
Taking a leaf out of Murray’s playbook, this one is to educate the newer hip-hop fans as a lot of the older heads will already know this joint: Rainy Dayz, probably my favourite track from Raekwon’s timeless Only Built 4 Cuban Linx album.
The combination of Wu affiliate Blue’s soulful vocals, the brilliant, atmospheric and almost haunting RZA beat and a couple of superb verses from Ghostface and Rae make this one of the most listenable tracks for newcomers to the Wu style, and one of the most repeatable tracks for those familiar with it. Undoubtedly a classic in my eyes, and a must-have in any hip-hop fan’s collection.

Ghostface Killah: One ninth of the hardcore, street sounds of the Wu Tang Clan. So I’m going to drop some heavy, rapid-fire Ghost track from perhaps Supreme Clientele? Or maybe the high-energy Run with Jadakiss from his Pretty Toney album? I could have. They do after all depict Ghost as we have come to know and love.
You know me by now though; that would be too easy. This is a show stopper. A real classic…

I was in bed last night pondering upon a question I had been asked by @RupeshB: Who did I think was the most consistently on point rapper throughout their career? The answer I gave couldn’t have been a freshman MC (hell even I could be consistent for five minutes) and therefore had to be someone who had seen the changes in the demands of the genre; Someone who had spanned the 90’s and 00’s; Someone who had not necessarily cemented his stature in the hip-hop hall of fame; Merely someone who, throughout their career, has consistently brought a high standard of rapping ability time and time again and yet is still doing it to this very day.

Quick one from me, with another leak from DJ Kay Slay’s upcoming album. Unlike some of the other leaks, the features on this are some real hard-hitters, and this should be a great track on the strength of these three rappers.

New Wu on the horizon kids and kidettes. Wu producer DJ Mathematics is bringing the heat with a new wu project, complete with exclusives, recorded between 2000 through to 2008. I’m expecting some nice remixes on this joint and look forward to its release date on 16th Feb of this year. After the click is the track listing. Be sure to check it.
The single Clap 2010 can be copped right below and features the wu heavyweights Rae, Meth and Ghost. (It states U-God makes an appearance so unless over time my ears have become immune to his ‘standing-out-like-a-sore-thumbness-shitness’ then I must be mistaken). Although I’m really looking forward to the album dropping next month, I’m actually relativley disappointed with this remix. Although saying that, I wasn’t crazy about the original. I guess that’s why it was only a hidden bonus track (3:53 onwards – but don’t skip it because the outro Jah World is awesome)…

In what can best be described as a fitting coincidence given the retrospective nature of this particular post, 2009 was very much a year of hindsight. I rediscovered artists I’d neglected, I discovered artists who I’d simply ignored, but most importantly I began to see the fundamental flaw in my appreciation of music (especially hip-hop) and how I probably got it wrong.
Don’t make the same mistakes. Click on to grab some unmissable tracks, and of course my discoveries from the year gone by. I’ve thrown in a couple of lists too, as I know some of you can’t deal with excess reading.

So I think we are all in agreement: 2009 has been quite a year for hip-hop. It has seen the return of Em, Jay has completed his Blueprint trilogy and 50 has had so much beef you would think he will be full up for Xmas (*cringes*. Yeah that was bad).
Aside from the big names dropping their albums, we have also seen some highly anticipated underground acts dropping LP’s too. This is my Best Of ’09 list and contains some real gems so don’t let the year go past before getting your hands on these.
Enjoy.

New/unreleased tracks this week from Usher, Lloyd, Tyrese and many more to keep you going. Before you scurry off to click through, there have been a couple of tracks dropped this week that were more than capable of headlining today’s episode, but I chose to release them earlier. Head here, this way, that way, and finally here to see which stuff I’m talking about.
Once you’ve done that, come back here, and continue your R&B adventures with more quality music. Deal?

As I posted earlier this week, there has been a build-up of tracks in my library that I simply haven’t had the time to post over the last 2 weeks. Well, this is the final clearout from the last 2 days, after which I’m back on sentry duty and posting it on the minute I get it. This is a pretty nice collection too, with Drake, Sadé (that’s right!), Rev Run (that’s right!), Wale and more making appearances.

I say ‘ish’ because I’ve been sitting on these tracks for about a week. My bad.
Two tracks below from Mr. Killah, both of which are set to be on his upcoming ‘R&B-styled album’ Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City.
Also, this is part 1 of 2 Wu-Tang Clan-related posts. Stay tuned for new Masta Killa later.

You may recall some time ago, I wrote a post in which I put up a couple of tracks from some underground hip-hop artists that you might have missed.
Well, it’s back again, and there are some artists in here that you’ve probably never heard of, and some you may have. Either way, between them they provide music to suit a variety of hip-hop styles.
The same theory applies to this post as applied to its predecessor: This is merely my way of sifting through the hundreds of artists that drop tracks daily and showing you a few more to check for. Check them out and broaden your horizons.
