“New Orleanian DJ/producer Quickie Mart presents the official, Gibbs-approved remix of “National Anthem”. Quickie Mart’s three-volume Haze Diaries mixtape series with NY rapper Gotham Green features Gibbs as well as Planet Asia, El Prez, Sum, IamOmni and more. His Gypsyphonic Disko mixtape features Chali 2na, Juvenile and Gift Of Gab and blends New Orleans bounce, klezmer, hip hop and Balkan music.”
This was very unexpected; dubstep + US hip hop isn’t something you’d associate with each other really. Even more surprising is for Freddie Gibbs to be remixed in this fashion as his sound is very much a throwback to the classic 90s hip hop that Murray and myself love, (Freddie Gibbs being a rapper whose music I do enjoy a lot).
I’m not really sure this works though to be perfectly honest (in fairness whilst I do enjoy some dubstep I’m not a massive fan of it), but this could well be a grower. You can hear and decide for yourself to the left and go grab the mp3 for this by clicking here.
