Couple of days off on this, but with 15 rappers on one song, I think you’ll probably let it slide. For those that aren’t familiar with Racks, it’s essentially one of those infectious mainstream hip-hop tracks that comes out of nowhere and takes on a life of its own, helped in part by various rappers jumping on the beat (don’t worry, I’ve labelled them in order for you!).

14 of them join YC here, some having released remixes prior to this official all-star compliation, with most being very well known names. It’s hard to pick a winning verse from the bunch, though B.o.B, Trae Tha Truth and Nelly (surprisingly) made enjoyable contributions.

I’ve turned up late to the party once again, so I’m not going to mess you around with a long intro here. That’s helped by only having one relevant and noteworthy post from the week gone by, that being Erin Christine’s latest single.

Lil’ Wayne and Cory Gunz-6’7′ Video

I really don’t like this song in the slightest, but can’t really complain about the video. Despite unnecessarily using Inception-style scenes at certain points, the rest of the video is actually quite funny and probably makes for one of the more watchable Wayne videos.

It certainly helps that unlike most of his videos, this one actually seems well produced and remotely thought out, as opposed to the ‘quick, let’s record it on this camera phone’ style of his usual efforts.

Whilst the point still stands that the song isn’t up to much, I’ve got no problems in saying that the video has made me appreciate Cory’s verse a little more, with his tongue-twisting verse being the undoubted highlight as far as the audio goes.

R&B Fridays: Episode 86

All good things come to an end, and my recent run of posting these on time has been broken. The football fans out there will also note that another streak was broken today, but we are NOT getting into that.

A quick round-up from the week gone by: UK upcomer Talay Riley grabs Wretch 32 for a remix of his single, Timbaland’s latest weekly instalment, Trey Songz’s take on Chris Brown’s latest single, and finally a medley of incredible Michael Jackson covers from the fantastic Patrick Stump.

Lots of big names in this week’s episode, and many that will certainly catch your mainstream eyes. Click below for a sweet-smelling blast of R&B to your sweaty, sweaty face.

Lil' Wayne and Cory Gunz-6'7

First single from Tha Carter IV. Lots of sketchy versions of this have been around today: tagged versions, radio rips and probably a few Talkboy recordings. We don’t bother with that, and whilst this isn’t perfect, it’s tag-free and better than the rest.

The quote preceding this drop was ‘A Milli on steroids‘. The quotes that will succeed it are ‘no, it isn’t‘. A Milli‘s vocal sample was far less annoying than this one, which goes for the ‘childish’ style that really doesn’t stand up against the pounding, rawer style of A Milli, which crucially boasted a head-nodding bass thump. Wayne’s raps aren’t much different, which isn’t saying much as both tracks lack real cohesiveness or lyrical structure: it wasn’t too big a deal on A Milli, as the beat was so unique. In this case however, the production is lacklustre and can’t mask the scattered approach of Wayne’s raps.

Can’t be too mad at Cory Gunz’s verse though. It’s not the ‘game-changer’ it was mooted to be, but it makes for a nice change of pace and stands up well against Wayne’s very plain verses.

Cory Gunz/Five The General/Flames - My Struggle

Some new heat by Cory Gunz et. al – nice little track to satisfy the “not quite mainstream/not quite underground” hip-hop heads. Good beat, good lyrics and a pretty decent chorus.

Sorry for the lack of worthwhile analysis but I’m currently considering what form of suicide I should go ahead with – following England’s dismal World Cup showing.

Edit: My bad, in my depressive state, I’d forgetten to upload the track itself!

Cory Gunz - Struggle

New track by Bronx native, Cory Gunz. He recently signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money imprint, and you can tell he’s already been influenced by that. Pretty much every track of his I’ve heard has been that raw type of Hip Hop. What we have here is a much more personal record, (the sort of track you’d expect Tyga to be on) and it suits him. Go grab it below.

Quickblast: Gunz & Rozes

I’m not going to lie, I know very little about the rapper Feroz, but I am checking anything by Cory Gunz, who features on this track. I’m told this is the latest leak off Feroz’ mixtape Invisible Man and on first impressions I’m liking this track. If you’re a fan of East Coast music by the likes of Saigon, Papoose, Maino etc then Cory Gunz isn’t a name you should be sleeping on.
