“On My Own” was recorded over a year ago and was initially slated to appear on Consequence’s “Cons TV” project. A snippet of the track was released awhile ago and it generated quite the buzz, so as a thank you to his fans for their continued support; Consequence offers up “On My Own.”
Very solid jam from the former G.O.O.D. Music labelmates. Cons brings some decent verses to the table, bringing forth somewhat isolating, defiant raps that have a definite bitterness about them, with the target of the raps likely to be his former label boss, one Kanye West. Cudi does a good job on hook duty here, dropping off a nice melodic chorus to complement the easygoing, positive production. Worth a listen.
For my first post after returning from a nice stay at the hospital, and a dose of swine flu (get your violins out please), I’m bringing you a nice gift with some good old fashioned hip-hop.
Now I wasn’t familiar with Jon Connor before I’d heard this joint, but with bars like these I’ll certainly keep an eye for the guy as he more than holds his own alongside both rap mainstays Saigon and Consequence, who come through with sharp verses themselves. A must listen for any hip-hop fan out there.
The video here is a trailer for the track released earlier today, which is worth watching to get a feel for the full track (which is available below).
The production is instantly likeable, as vintage melodies are allowed to slide over some simple drum work to deliver a retro, positive hip-hop production that matches the stature of the rappers involved.
On the rare occasions he emerges, it’s great to hear Havoc on a mic, and that novelty is certainly clouding my judgement on best verse, here even though his contribution is short. Cons dominates most of the track though, hence there’s probably no ‘competition’ to be had. Definitely worth grabbing for the hip-hop heads.
The latest addition to Kanye’s G.O.O.D Friday selection is produced by Q-Tip, and features Talib Kweli and Consequence. I’ve only given this one quick play, but I have to say it’s probably my least favourite G.O.O.D Friday track so far. Lyrically all three are on point, yet for me the track itself isn’t an easy listen. When I seen the line up I was hoping for an old school hip-hop beat, instead we’re given something that wouldn’t be out of place in a 80′s science-fiction movie/TV Show. For me Talib just shades it on the verses, though both outshine Kanye.
(As I’m typing this I’m suffering from a lovely hangover so my opinion may change once I’ve recovered!)
This track is also set to feature on Yeezy’s eagerly anticipated album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy as a bonus track.
Indi posted the full video and audio a few days back and I enjoyed it so much I had to get this behind the scenes footage out to you.
Love watching the relationship different MC’s have with eachother when not behind the mic. Here Cons and P seem real humbled by being in eachother’s company. Nice to see.
If you checked out Consequence’s mixtape, Movies On Demand, then you’ll know how good this track is already. If not, watch this excellent video to the left here and immediately grab the mp3 for this below. Or be branded a fool, whichever you prefer.
A few rappers have recently taken a turn on Drake’s Find Your Love. First up we had Consequence, followed by Rick Ross, Rock City, and now Fat Joe and Joell Ortiz. The Fat Joe and Ortiz versions can be collected below, and it probably goes without saying that I’m definitely a fan of Ortiz’s version. There’s also a megamix of all of the above verses (minus Rock City, sadly), kindly mixed together by Statik Selektah.
Cons wastes no time in releasing a remix of the very good Drake single. Looking forward to giving this one a listen, as Cons usually comes through with good verses. There’s also a Rick Ross remix floating around sadly, but I have absolutely no doubt that he’ll ruin the song entirely with some talk about his breasts, so I’m not posting that.
New video for the track ‘Childish Games’ these two did together, if you were silly enough to miss out on this first time round, the audio can be acquired by clicking here.
Consequence’s mixtape, Movies On Demand, has finally dropped. You may remember the Consequence & Maino collabo I posted up last week, well judging by that, this mixtape isn’t to be missed out on. Go cop it below.
This has been a week filled with many collaborations, much to my delight.
Here is a new leak from Consequence’s upcoming mixtape, Movies On Demand. Didn’t really expect him to collaborate with someone like Maino (considering his links to more conscious emcees like Q-Tip and Kanye West for example), but it works well. I can see Maino becoming the new ‘go-to’ guy for features if he can keep himself away from controversy, given his infectious flow. Grab the linky below.
A Tribe Called Quest has a prominent, and often overlooked, place in hip-hop history. Alongside De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest (heron referred to as ATCQ) formed part of the Native Tongues satisfying the industry with their positive-minded, afrocentric lyricism and electric-sampled and jazz-influenced beats.
Rapper Phife Dawg, producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad and all-rounder Q-Tip’s fourth effort spawned Beats, Rhymes and Life (1996); their darkest album to date in terms of concept and unlike their previous releases, was tentatively received by critics. Although BRAL won’t be recognised in the same category as The Low End Theory (1991), Midnight Marauders (1993)or People’s Instinctive Travels and The Paths of Rhythm (1990) (try saying that when you’re drunk), the album is significant in a number of ways… → Continue Reading Throwback Thursdays Vol 15
Got two new singles to drop before I get into the stash accumulated recently (I’ll do it tomorrow, promise!). First one is this chilled effort from the Cons, with Asher on the feature. The production has a mixture of elements, including a Biggie sample, with the outcome being something chilled/introspective with a slightly haunting edge.
Cons brings his usual high standard rhymes, and Asher’s feature is good too. Nice to hear him on this sort of production, and it’s a worthwhile guest spot.
A few new tracks after the click from the last day or two, some of which are pretty good Most of it is made up of remixes, and a whole host of well-known artists are involved, so be sure to keep reading.
Consequence drops the anticipated official remix to his recent single, Whatever U Want. The two G.O.O.D. Music rappers missing from the original hop on board, with Big Sean and Kid Cudi bringing a great deal to the track.
I definitely prefer this version, with all of the rappers switching it up and taking turns dropping quick verses, with the memorable hook breaking them up. Definitely a track worth grabbing.
The techno-tinged lead single from Consequence’s upcoming project has been given the video treatment. Click here to the get the audio for the Kanye West and John Legend-assisted track. The video is OK, although it looks like it was filmed on a handheld camera.
New music from the Cons below, with Officer Ricky hopping on the track too. Haven’t checked this out yet, so it’s another DIY job.
Consequence-The More I Get Ft. Rick Ross
With the release of Kid Cudi’s debut album less than a week away (for the UK anyway), I’ve put together a collection of tracks that have dropped over the past 12 months from the Cudder that you might have missed. Freestyles, original tracks, whatever. Click below and gorge on the tasty treats within.
This post is swelling with good music. After the click there’s a great Colin Munroe feature, a new track from G.O.O.D. Music’s Consequence, the final version of Wale’s Pretty Girls and more… → Continue Reading Colin Munroe, Wale, Kanye and More.
Consequence, for those of you who don’t know, is a rapper signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label. He’s featured on a few of Kanye’s tracks, as well as having moderate success in his solo career. The new single, Whatever U Want, features Kanye West and John Legend.
