It’s been a while since we got new music from Mike, and he’s right back on the scene with The Layover mixtape scheduled for 20th November, with this refix of the Elton John classic being the first taste of the tape.
Rather than attempting to be another cover version that falls short, this is instead a bold, modern take on the track that allows it to be entirely seperate from the original, courtesy of an electronica-inspired production that creates a futuristic atmosphere around the track. Posner’s vocals are solid throughout, and in keeping with the production attempt to utilise a more modern crossover style rather than attempting to go note-for-note with Sir Elton, whilst Bun’s contribution fits in surprisingly well as his bassy delivery contrasts well with the rest of the track. Free grab below.

Massive features here for one of the quicker rising (and a personal favourite) rappers out in the US, and he certainly deserves such lofty co-signs with a consistent, solid body of work behind him.
A great production really holds this together, opening with a vocal sample, evolving into a speaker-rattling, dub-influenced, electronically-driven beat with a series of addictive synths and pounding bass hits. What’s noticeable is that the production is slightly different for each rapper’s verse, adding a nice tailored quality, and a commendable attention to detail. Asher opens the verses with a solid set of bars, taking on the beat with a challenging flow and his typically laidback manner, whilst Gilbere follows with a little more urgency in a decent verse, and Bun closes things off with the strongest verse of the three, as he rotates between riding the beat step-for-step and slightly less strictly for a smooth and diverse listen. Decent effort that’ll sound great on loud.

Couple of days off on this, but with 15 rappers on one song, I think you’ll probably let it slide. For those that aren’t familiar with Racks, it’s essentially one of those infectious mainstream hip-hop tracks that comes out of nowhere and takes on a life of its own, helped in part by various rappers jumping on the beat (don’t worry, I’ve labelled them in order for you!).
14 of them join YC here, some having released remixes prior to this official all-star compliation, with most being very well known names. It’s hard to pick a winning verse from the bunch, though B.o.B, Trae Tha Truth and Nelly (surprisingly) made enjoyable contributions.
YC-Racks Remix ft. Young Jeezy, Wiz Khalifa, Waka Flocka Flame, CyHi Da Prynce, Bun B, B.o.B, Yo Gotti, Wale, Cory Gunz, Dose, Cory Mo, Nelly, Twista, Big Sean, Trae Tha Truth and Ace Hood

A mouthwatering underground lineup on this one from Term’s upcoming Cameo King II dropping May 24th.
An upbeat, bouncy instrumental sees each emcee here attempt to out-do each other. The winner? It has to be Term himself who comes through with that treble-time multi-syllabic flow that G Rap in his prime would be proud.

Is this the longest title we’ve ever seen on OTU? It’s certainly up there! DJ Khaled enlists a plethora of rappers to take on the remix of his recent(ish) single, Welcome To The Hood.
I can’t be the only one, but I’m pretty tired of these remixes by him where he just sticks a load of guest verses on it and expects a hit. Having said that I really wanted to hear the Game verse on this and thus had to check it out. I’m also pretty sure there’s a lot of you out there who still lap this stuff up, so who am I to hate on it?
Summary: I don’t like this and I didn’t like the original either, you might though.

It’s been a good week for original, creative videos and this is no different. Fresh from signing with Shady Records, Yelawolf gives us some excellent new visuals for a song that features Bun B.
There’s really not anyone out there in hip hop like Yelawolf right now, as evidenced with this song, his flow is just incredible. I, for one, cannot wait for him and Eminem to get on a song together – the thought of that happening just blows my mind.

DJ Green Lantern remixes Clinton Sparks tribute to the DJ.
You all know what Jim Jones, Game and Bun B provide; likeable rhymes over a great beat. A real nice chorus to this track too, so it has all the elements a great mainstream hip hop track should have.
One I’ll be bumping for a while.

B.o.B gives us another video from No Genre just as he releases the full tape, and it’s another great track. He comes through with a more conscious lyrical message on the track, running through lots of issues and questions in captivating manner that is aided by his variety in the flows.
Really enjoying the video too, as his lyrics are brought to life with the a thought-provoking set of still images that certainly add their own messages to Bobby’s.
Most importantly, the full mixtape is now available below. Really looking forward to this as the two tracks we’ve caught from it thus far have been superb. Tracklist is available after the jump below.

From Redman’s upcoming Reggie album due to drop December 7th. Red enlists long-time collaborator Mef to spit a very tidy verse and the help of everyone’s everyman Bun B who also smashes his bars to pieces. It’s the production which to a certain element lets this joint down; Not exactly the type of boardwork you would expect the East Coast duo over, and undoubtedly suits Bun’s Southern roots better. The chorus is terrible, but the verses make up for it. This will get a few spins though.

A glut of hip-hop videos have been released over the last 24-36 hours, so let’s begin the catch-up with this one. One of the more mainstream-friendly tracks from Bun’s Trill OG, Indi got it right on this track’s release back in July by comparing it to a UGK sound.
The video slots nicely alongside the mainstream feel of the track with a club-oriented video that encapsulates the cool, confident nature of the song. Audio can be funneled out of here.

Murray brought you a bundle of joy earlier, and I’ll follow that up with a similarly-themed post.
First off, there’s some more unreleased 2Pac, which is really worth picking up. Getting to listen to previously-unheard mid-90s material is always a rare pleasure. The second is a remix to Tangerine, one of the better songs from Big Boi’s superb recent solo album, adding Rick Ross and Bun B to the mix. Finally, we’ve got an uplifting T.I. and Chris Brown collab, which I assume is from King Uncaged.

Mickey Factz progresses furthermore on his road to becoming a prominent name in this hip-hop game with two pretty big features on this recent song of his. Great coup and definitely enhances what was already a very good track.

Also featuring DJ Drama, Yo Gotti, Diamond & Shawty Lo, this is one monster of a remix! With a beat that’s full of lots of bass this is one posse cut you probably don’t want to miss out on.

Bun-B just dropped this on his Twitter, as a tribute to 2Pac (14th anniversary of his death today, how crazy is that!?). The original to this was one of those that I wasn’t really feeling very much but grew on me loads, so I’m delighted to hear this remix.
Edit: I’ve since read that this was actually the original version of Miss Me, that was supposed to be on Bun B’s album before he gave it up for Drake to do with Lil’ Wayne.

It’s funny this dropped today, as I was thinking this morning (yes, I was awake in the morning!!) of how T-Pain used to be absolutely massive, in terms of anything he touched was a hit. It’s fair to say that since those heady 07/08 days his music has become a little more, well, musical I suppose and hence his mainstream appeal has dropped off a tad.
Anywho, enjoy the visuals and be sure to collect the audio from here.

How’s the title for awesome alliteration huh?
Got some bonus tracks here from Mr. 5 Mic’s critically acclaimed, Trill O.G.
The first, The Pope, is a heavy, typically Southern-inspired joint with Bun spitting some tales from the streets. I like this one and it’s a shame it didn’t make the cut. The second, produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, is much lighter, almost spacey and I don’t really think suits B’s style.

The Jeezy freestyle is causing a real stir around them internets. I tried to post it last night, but was struggling to get my laptop to co-operate, so forgive me on the delay. There’s talk that Jeezy is throwing subliminals at Rick Ross on this, which is probably likely given the recent Blowin’ Money Fast controversy. However the lines are really subliminal on this one, which is a bit disappointing given Jeezy’s usual in-your-face style.
Bun’s freestyle is decent, including celebratory lines about his recent 5 Mics accreditation by The Source for his Trill OG album. Both worth checking out for different reasons, although I do feel this beat is massively overrated.

An apt tribute to Bun, given the recent critical acclaim for his latest album, although it’s never a bad time to pay tribute to one of hip-hop’s true legends. It’s a pretty short track, but always good to get some new J. Cole bars and these don’t let down as usual. Pretty chill, Dilla-esque beat on this one too that deserves some appreciation.

We like Bun B over here. He’s actually one of the only Southern rappers (alongside Young Buck) I can actually stomach.
Here’s another drop from his upcoming Trill O.G. project for which if you missed the other leaks they can be obtained from here and here (oh, and here). Should probably be the last leak we give you or else we may get bent over one knee and spanked. I’m sure by now you’ve heard enough to go out though and buy the album on August 3rd.

This is awesome. Boi-1da does an excellent job on capturing that UGK sound, whilst still keeping his own signature style that spawned most of Drake’s hits. This is from Bun B’s upcoming album, Trill O.G., which is an album that is sounding like it’s going to be rather good. I for one can’t get enough of Drake’s music at the moment, so this is a track that’ll be doing the rounds on my iTunes (and ears) for a while.
