I love Premo’s commitment to only working with artists he admires and therefore it is very rare you will hear a Premo beat on the radio. Notable MC’s who have been blessed with Premo’s production include B.I.G., Nas, Big L, Rakim, O.C., Jay-Z, Fat Joe and more recently cats such as Royce Da 5’9″, Termanology and Reks.
However, sometimes Premo will engage in work with artists I don’t think we are all so sure about. For example, Premo’s board-work on NYG’z and Blaq Poet’s recent albums have single handedly carried these projects into ‘bearable’ territory. Big Shug is one of those artists I’m still not blown away by. He had my buy-in on My Boston, but again, that could have been spearheaded by, again, DJ Premier.
Anyway, here’s some new Premo/Big Shug from Shug’s upcoming album I Am Forever released later this calender year. Oh and I wonder how much more Fat Joe paid for his brilliant I’m Gone in relation to this…
