Trae The Truth, Lupe Fiasco, Big Boi, Wale, Wiz Khalifa and MDMA-I'm On

A huge line-up here. Boasting a nice mix of established rappers and upcoming MCs on this, the track is certainly a diverse listen with a range of rapping styles represented here.

Lupe grabs the opening verse with a couple of neat lines (including an All Saints Spitalfields reference which caught me off-guard!), though it’s the kind of production that his double-time flow would have suited. Trae hops in next a solid verse in those trademark husky tones, doing himself justice with these hip-hop heavyweights. He’s followed by the best verses on the track though: a short, speedy verse from Big Boi that probably steals the track, Wale doing himself justice with a very enjoyable verse, and Wiz closing with a surprisingly well-delivered verse (and follows Lupe with another British reference!) that closes the track in style. Very enjoyable collaborative effort, and a pretty big look for Trae.

Big Boi-The Train Pt. 2 Video

This was made back in 2008, which just goes to show how long Big Boi had this album in his locker. The video here is considerably extended in comparison to the album track, in part down to a philosophical narrative opening the track. Reminds me of the type you’d find on a Common album, and it’s nice to hear from time to time.

The track itself is definitely one of my favourites from Sir Lucious Left Foot, with a catchy hook supplementing the eerie and atmospheric production nicely. Big comes through with his ever-enjoyable rhyme work, switching back and forth between his trademark off-beat flow and a more standard approach.

The video is made up of show footage, which does make for interesting viewing as the diversity and originality of a Big Boi/Outkast show never fails to entertain. Worth a watch, and be sure to pick up that album if you haven’t already.

Sunday's Second Bundle of Goodies

Murray brought you a bundle of joy earlier, and I’ll follow that up with a similarly-themed post.

First off, there’s some more unreleased 2Pac, which is really worth picking up. Getting to listen to previously-unheard mid-90s material is always a  rare pleasure. The second is a remix to Tangerine, one of the better songs from Big Boi’s superb recent solo album, adding Rick Ross and Bun B to the mix. Finally, we’ve got an uplifting T.I. and Chris Brown collab, which I assume is from King Uncaged.

Big Boi and Yelawolf-Ain't No DJ Video

Great to see Yelawolf getting these big name co-signs, and even better that he’s getting screen time for one of them.

No audio for you, as you should already have Big Boi’s album by now. If you don’t, get your head checked!

Janelle Monae/Big Boi – Tightrope [Organized Noize Remix]

Real nice remix to a track dropped by Ajay a while back . It’s a bouncy, funky, head nodding affair – happy music if you will, which is much welcomed considering how depressingly slow it’s been today (as well as yesterday) for new music! Stupid sexy July 4th American holiday.

Big Boi - Mixtape For Dummies: Guide To Global Greatness

Enlisting DJ X-Rated & DJ Esco to put together this mixtape, Big Boi here has for us a right treat. Comprising of purely classic material, from Outkast to his solo stuff, this one isn’t to be missed by fans of his music. Remember folks, his album is out (legally) in just 4 days time, so be sure to get it and support great music.

Big Boi brings us more visuals from an upcoming single (featuring Vonnegutt) from his new album, Sir Lucious Left Foot. From the quality of the leaks thus far, the album promises to be extremely good.

Big Boi - Tangerine ft. T.I.

After the success of Shutterbug, Big Boi capitalises on the momentum with this new track (from his upcoming album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty). Featuring T.I. this track has a beat that is so atmospheric, expect this track to be a hit too.

Mick Boogie, Big Boi and Rick Ross-SouthernplayalisticMaybachmusic

This kind of stuff seems to be just coming out of nowhere!

The rightfully respected and revered Mick Boogie puts together a mixtape with some Big Boi verses over Ross productions, and vice-versa. I’m looking forward to hearing those Big Boi verses on Ross’ stuff, as whilst Officer Ricky has his shortcomings as a rapper he definitely has a great ear for a beat.

Should make for really entertaining listening, Mick Boogie doesn’t let the people down.

Big Boi-Daddy Fat Stacks Mixtape

Not an official mixtape (as far as I know), but a nice collection of recent leaks, features and remixes affiliated with Big Boi. Serves as a nice compilation for those of you who may be missing a few tracks. Apologies for the link, it’s going to take too long to upload my copy and I’m pretty tired, so props to Down South for this 1-click link.

Big Boi Speaks About Upcoming Album

Our dudes over at Chicago’s GWHH had the honour of grabbing Big Boi for an interview and got to speak upon a range of topics, including his upcoming album, the B.o.B/Andre 3000 comparisons and much more. Definitely worth a watch.

Really looking forward to this album, even if awesome tracks like Lookin’ For Ya don’t make it.

Big Boi, Andre 3000 and Sleepy Brown-Lookin’ For Ya

I’ve been pretty on-the-ball this evening for music, so forgive me for completely forgetting I had this one sitting around! According to Big Boi’s Twitter, there’s a label problem and they won’t let Andre 3000 appear on this album-utterly, utterly ridiculous! Hence, this track may or may not end up on the album. It would be a massive shame if it didn’t, as it’s a very good one.

The percussion is uptempo and complimented brilliantly by some pretty relaxed production elements throughout. It’s awesome to hear from 3 Stacks again, and as ever he does a fantastic job with his verse. Big Boi does precisely the same, and with Sleepy delivering a great mellow chorus, this is without question my favourite track from (or cut from) this album so far. Unmissable music, absolutely fantastic stuff.

Big Boi-Shutterbug Video

It’s interesting how tracks blow up in the mainstream and on the radio without me knowing. We released this nearly 2 months ago, and I’ve heard it on the radio recently by chance (whilst switching a CD!), as well as being discussed/mentioned by mainstream music fans.

Anywho, loved the song, and the video is pretty good too. Some fun effects throughout, and a nice colourful theme that fits the song perfectly. Looking forward to the album.

Audio can be swacked here if you missed it the first time.

Big Boi-Shutterbug

Very old school sounding vibes from one half of the legendary Outkast duo. Really liking this track from the often-delayed Sir Luscious Left Foot album. That album is on its way though, as he recently signed a deal (with Def Jam I think?) and this track gives me even higher hopes for it.

B.o.B Grabs Big Boi For Nothin’ On You Remix

1/2 of the legendary Outkast duo lends a verse to fellow ATLien B.o.B’s superb track. Definitely the strongest remix I’ve heard of this track, as Big Boi lays down some nice raps over this already-brilliant track. Be sure to pick this one up.

The recently released video can be watched here, where you can also grab the original version of the track.

R&B Fridays: Episode 35

Quite the range of acts once again, both in terms of popularity and age, with the boy Justin Bieber making an appearance as well as veterans Jagged Edge. Not too much range in the quality though: it’s predominantly good stuff as I’ve taken time to root out (most of) the poor stuff. Any crap stuff is just there to make the rest look better.

I’ve been listening to a lot of R&B this week, so click on to sort yourself out for the coming week.
