Converse have once again brought together luminaries of the music world (see here for a previous collaboration), and as expected due to the track being promotion for the Gorillaz/Converse footwear, it’s dominated by that unique Gorillaz flavour. Not a bad thing at all though, as there’s a lively and upbeat feel to the track, with the production boasting a frenetic electronic sample alongside sharp percussion work for a nice blast of energy. Vocally, you’ll probably find yourself waiting on the Andre 3000 section, and he doesn’t disappoint with a mixture of singing and rapping that synergises brilliantly with the speedy production. Thug Motivation 103 is seemingly just around the corner, and the most anticipated track from the project emerges, as the Snowman grabs two of the game’s icons for one of the year’s better hip-hop lineups.
A very bright, perky sample sets a tone of positivity from the offset, with luscious bass amply supporting it throughout. Whilst it’s an uplifting production, it doesn’t overshadow the vocal work as many of these sort of productions can, and that’s just as well with three very enjoyable verses from each rapper. Each artist takes turns rapping about their siginifcant other, with Jeezy’s slow, husky raps opening things up in style, whilst Jay follows up and really throws back to the early 00′s, as his lady-centric raps effortlessly take to this soulful production. 3 Stacks closes the affair out and much like Jay, the throwback vibe is stamped all over his verse, as Dre’s subject and style slide onto this beat smoothly throughout. A very likeable slice of rap.

The last 48 hours are a bit of a rapid blur, so to me it’s still Friday. Very solid new material this week, with some of the bigger names in the R&B, pop and even hip-hop world making appearances.
Only the three relevant posts to recap on, with the announcement of the Future Hits Live tour, solid new music from Drake, and a brand new EP from the talented Rocki Evans which is probably going to be worth a listen.
Click, read, download, enjoy.

No recap this week thanks to a temperamental hard drive, but R&B Fridays actually makes it out on a Friday for the second consecutive week, which is a pretty big victory.
Lots of remixes and rappers popping up this week, with some huge names coming through with some very unexpected pop and R&B remixes. More than enough original material too though, making this a very diverse episode that’ll satisfy the vast majority of you grubby little folk.
Click on and let me be the Snoop to your Cameron, though R&B/pop probably isn’t the same as marijuana…probably.

First off, a notice from me: I don’t have a laptop any more as mine pretty much gave up on life today, so don’t expect to hear much from me until a permanent solution is found. On the occasions I do get to one (now), I’ll try and pop in!
Right, so let’s get this remix out there. I’ve been hugely looking forward to this since the news was broken, specifically that Andre verse. That’s all I’ve got for you sadly, as my laptop issues have obvious curtailed my access to music somewhat!
Edit (Indi): Thought I’d give some of my thoughts (due to previously mentioned laptop issues, Ajay was unable to finish this post!). Drake kicks off this track by flipping it with something that sounds lifted straight from his classic So Far Gone mixtape, the rest of them pick up the original beat with their raps. Always exciting to hear a new Andre 3000 verse, I’m not sure who I’d credit with the best verse though, possibly Kanye, need to listen to this some more still. Clean version (just below) for you now folks.

You should do, because it was the standout song from The Love Below. It really shot to prominence (if I recall correctly) when Andre performed it on an MTV awards show, and upon that performance the legendary track built its reputation. It’s upon a new version that it may cement its legacy.
I wanted to leave this for R&B Friday, but caved in. Understandably, Jesse Boykins III may not be a familiar name: my only exposure to him was through Mickey Factz mixtapes, as they’ve collaborated several times to good effect. He takes a swing at this track, and does a monumentally good job in not only retaining the beauty of the original, but stamping his own indelible mark on the song. Vocally, the work is very different to the original, being a lot more relaxed and rooted in vintage soul, whilst the production follows suit and drops the sharp guitar notes of the original in favour of a lighter, vocal-boosting sound.
They’re differences that allow this version to stand alongside the original without being hindered by direct comparisons due to the nature of the changes: it’s not about which ones better, but being able to enjoy them both for their respective merits. For me this absolutely consitutes unmissable music, and makes you truly appreciate how there are very few things better than a perfect soul track.

Is it me, or is 3 Stacks actually putting out a bit of music these days?!
Although this clearly isn’t an official leak, but it’s still new music from Andre and suggests that he must be working on something. Really liking this too, as Andre delivers some raps over a beat that has a real vintage sound, giving it a nice rap/soul hybrid feel. I’ll update with the full/tag-free if it ever makes its way out. Updated with tag-free version.

Quickly, quickly. Football is calling.
Andre 3000 covers The Beatles All Together Now.
Originally recorded for a Nike commercial (as you may see from the artwork) All Together Now mainly keeps the traditional acoustics, but we are treated with a jazzy piano in the background which helps update its appeal.

Here it is: my last R&B Friday for around a month. Don’t you worry though, we’ve got plenty planned to keep you supplied and satisfied.
This week has material from a really wide range of artists and styles, from established artists like Timbaland to newcomers such as Sammie. Good stuff to keep you going until the surprises in store for you next week, be sure to click on and enjoy some R&B.

It’s not often that someone can brag that they managed to get Nas and Andre 3000 on one track, but Lloyd managed it with the remix to his breakout single You. The original version is unquestionably my favourite R&B song ever (and the pinnacle of Lloyd’s career to date), but this remix runs that very close.
The original version featured a really likeable interpolation of Spandau Ballet’s True, whereas the remix seems to sample it more directly. Probably prefer the interpolated production, but having verses from 2 of the all-time greats (Andre’s verse in particular is superb) more than compensates. A remix that fans of the original, and R&B generally, can really get down with, as well as being one the hip-hop heads can surely appreciate.

Two Andre verses in a week?! It’s like Christmas, my birthday, and every other rapper’s funeral rolled into one (quotable of the week?).
The beat has been retooled for this remix (which I’m going to claim is the official remix), and keeps you waiting for that 3 Stacks verse which tacks on right at the end. Good verse as ever, with that trademark speedy delivery. Hopefully the re-emergence of Andre means his solo album is in the pipeline!

I’ve been pretty on-the-ball this evening for music, so forgive me for completely forgetting I had this one sitting around! According to Big Boi’s Twitter, there’s a label problem and they won’t let Andre 3000 appear on this album-utterly, utterly ridiculous! Hence, this track may or may not end up on the album. It would be a massive shame if it didn’t, as it’s a very good one.
The percussion is uptempo and complimented brilliantly by some pretty relaxed production elements throughout. It’s awesome to hear from 3 Stacks again, and as ever he does a fantastic job with his verse. Big Boi does precisely the same, and with Sleepy delivering a great mellow chorus, this is without question my favourite track from (or cut from) this album so far. Unmissable music, absolutely fantastic stuff.
