Unknown Mortal Orchestra-Swim and Sleep (Like A Shark) (Video)

Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed their previous single from the II album, getting accustomed to their sound across an entire LP isn’t the easiest thing in the world. It’s not that it isn’t good, as it most certainly is, but it’s so incredibly unique that each song needs quite a few listens to really sink in. With that said, it was clear from one listen that this was one of the highlights of the album, and it’s a great choice for an accompanying video.

The track’s got an overarching positivity with hints of a childlike innocence and hopefulness. When the video opens, you see clay-mation and you expect it to go in that sort of direction, but within seconds things turn pretty unsafe for children: how many videos can you say open with voyeuristic clay dolls, move on to more self-gratifying and a touch of boozing, hilariously pointless graffiti, and end up with the weirdest kind of happy ending imaginable. It’s brilliantly bizarre, and quite simply great entertainment for those with a peurile sense of humour. The album is available now.
