The promo run begins. The first 4:30 of this are an interesting insight into Kendrick, speaking eloquently about his album cover inspiration, Black Hippy, the project with J. Cole and plenty more besides. It’s good to get a look into his thought process in such a way, and the overarching conclusion is that he’s a quietly-confident, intelligent guy who isn’t really trying too hard to be anything he isn’t-it’s all pretty damn genuine.
The freestyle is an enjoyable one too. The laidback beat is naturally a good fit for Kendrick, though instead of delivering in that easygoing style, he brings a quickfire, intense flow that gets cut way too short for the quality he’s putting out. Fingers crossed a longer version spills out from this session, as it’s an excellent freestyle.
