The second TDE instalment of the week (here for the first) comes from Jay Rock, who drops off a good hip-hop jam that’ll open more ears to one of the more overlooked members of that team.
Being a former running buddy of Game’s, his rougher, more ‘street’ style makes for a nice bit of diversity in comparison to his current labelmates, and that’s evident here. The production has all the hallmarks of a TDE selection: wistful, a little downbeat and packed with plenty of atmosphere, and the style works favourably with Rock’s aforementioned grittiness, making for a good contrast that highlights the quality of the production without removing spotlight from Jay. His raps are solid throughout, throwing forth a couple of different flows but generally sticking to a quicker pace, and this is one that’s definitely worth checking out.
