Eminem - Not Afraid [Behind The Scenes]

More Eminem behind the scenes footage.

This time from Em’s video shoot for his Recovery lead single, Not Afraid.

Aside from watching Em, it’s interesting to actually see how they film and put together this kind of shit.

Missed Eminem’s behind the scenes from his artwork shoot? Watch that here too.

R&B Throwback: The-Dream-Falsetto

Many people wonder why I’m such a huge fan of The-Dream. I can understand why, as most people’s exposure to him wasn’t until his second album, which is probably the weakest of the 3 to date. His first album (released late 2007) however was a modern-day R&B classic.

Falsetto was the single that caught my attention back then, and put me onto the album. Falsetto is one of those R&B tracks that just has it all: great lyrics, a heavy, driving beat and a catchy hook. There’s a real raw quality to Dream’s voice on this too, which adds even more flavour. Give it a go, and definitely look to grab Love Hate if you don’t already own it.

Bliss N Eso / Xzibit - People Up On It

What is it with X on features today? Australian hip-hop powerhouse enlist the West coast legend for a joint from their recently released (and very good) Running On Air.

Aussie rap is something which we often sleep on over here, but as I demonstrated with Hilltop Hoods at the turn of the year, we are stupid to do so.

I always go straight for the bangers on unfamiliar projects (I know – It’s a bad habit) and both lyrically and production-wise this joint achieves that. I could have in fact dropped various others from the album, but wanted to give you a familiar name you could run with. Baby steps here people, baby steps.

Tinchy Stryder - Gangsta? [Video]

Indi posted this joint early last month and here’s the visuals to accompany.

This video also includes a track titled Game Over with Tinie Tempah and I’m actually feeling both of these joints. Big, grime beats and both artists stepping their pen games up.

Wait. What?

B.o.B-Generation Lost Video

Another unexpected video, given that this song is a couple of years old (or close to it). I was supposed to post this yesterday, but YouTube is giving me endless grief so my apologies for the delay.

The track itself was the very first one to actually alert me to B.o.B’s talents, and is a superbly lyrical track which will still resonate with fans today. Definitely one to check out, and it’s probably worth sourcing the whole Who The F**k Is B.o.B mixtape just for a look at his early work.

B.o.B-Generation Lost

Where Is Kanye West Now?

First Facebook, then Twitter and now he’s at…Rolling Stone?! Not really a logical course, but it’s an effective promotional campaign nonetheless.

Statik Selektah, Termanology, Xzibit and Cassidy Collab

The first leak from the upcoming album from Statik and Term (under the name 1982) comes with a couple of heavy-hitters on the feature. Statik drops off an interesting production, which has some of those gritty elements mixed in with a jazzy feel. Pretty unique stuff, and nice to hear him mixing it up like that. The verses are all pretty likeable, with Termanology probably just shading it ahead of Xzibit for the best one.

Bun B / DJ Premier - Let 'Em Know [Video]

This is awesome.

Man-of-the-moment Bun B and Premo get together to drop a studio video for my favourite joint off B’s Trill O.G. Premo’s been bringing some serious heat behind the boards recently.

Audio for this can be acquired from here.

Planet Asia - Trouble [Video]

New video for Planet Asia’s Trouble from his upcoming project Black Belt Theatre.

K'naan and Adam Levine-Bang Bang Video

Surprised this took so long to be released, although it sort of makes sense given K’naan’s elevation to the spotlight after the resounding success of Wavin’ Flag during the World Cup. This track is from his superb Troubadour album, and certainly represents one of the more energetic and uptempo tracks from the album.

Certainly a good track, but by no means one of the best from the album. That’s not a slur on this track at all, it just signifies how strong an album it is!

R&B Fridays: Episode 59

Busy, busy day to blame for the delay on this. That, and the fact I forgot I do these. Woops. Anywho, I’ve more than made up for it by throwing in some massive names this week, including  Ne-Yo, Trey Songz, Johnta Austin and many more. Enough delaying, click below and get stuck into the good stuff.

A.G. - Off The Wall [Video]

No idea where this is from because it isn’t on A.G.’s recently released Everything’s Berri.

Not sure why he didn’t just drop a video for a joint from the album?

UK Blast: Dot Rotten Acapella

One of the UK’s shiniest grime stars drops some real tight acapella bars reminiscing on his life to date.

Love seeing the UK scene starting to stand on their own two feet lyrically and not just hiding behind the big grime beats.

Pharoahe Monch On Writing 'Simon Says'

Monch talks us through his writing process for the banger Simon Says.

I’ve actually got this book (no, I’m going to start spitting verses – I think I’ll stick to blogging) and it’s a great read for the ‘heads’ amongst us. The writer, Paul Edwards, has assembled a stunning amount of first-hand advice from MC’s ranging across all sub-genres of hip-hop. Buy it here.

Make sure you visit my throwback of Monch’s Simon Says here.

Eminem's 'Recovery' - Behind The Scenes

A video like this doesn’t particularly need much of an introduction does it?

Shows behind the scenes footage of Em on his artwork cover set. Nice to see Em so relaxed and having fun again.

This video is marked part 1, so we will wait with baited breath for part 2…

Elzhi-Kinda Like A Big Deal Freestyle

Elzhi spits a short freestyle over the ever-popular Clipse beat. Bit late on this production, but it’s a nice beat nonetheless. For those who haven’t already heard/read, Elzhi has officially declared himself departed from Slum Village, with his manager declaring the group ‘defunct’. It’s a shame, but I suppose they’re only down to 2 members so it makes sense. Remember to get that Villa Manifesto LP.

Yelawolf/Gucci Mane - Wanna Party

Edit: Bringing this back to the top as we have the no DJ version now!

Another one from that random mixtape full of exclusives (see here, here and here), this is one that I wasn’t expecting much from, I was wrong – this is good. Yelawolf validates my recent thoughts towards him by coming through with two excellently delivered verses and I even found myself really liking Gucci’s flow on this too, which is pretty disturbing tbh. I’m hoping a no DJ version of this leaks. Go cop it below.

Yelawolf – Wanna Party ft. Gucci Mane

Rick Ross - Hard In The Paint [Freestyle]

Rick Ross takes on Waka Flocka’s hit song, as I said before, I’m a massive fan of this beat.

J.Y. – The Hiring Process [Mixtape]

This dropped the other day, but I’ve only just had a chance to check it out and I must say this is mightily impressive!

“Featuring Killer Mike, Joe Budden, Cory Gunz, Freeway, Young Chris, Joell Ortiz, Jim Jones and Red Cafe; with production from Ski Beatz, Bink!, Omen, Buckwild, The Klasix, Nard n B and The HeatMakerz.”

This mixtape right here is better than the majority of albums I’ve heard this year. And that is no overstatement, this guy (as far as I’m aware) has seemingly come out from nowhere. The beats on this are all great, the features on this are all rappers I rate pretty highly and J.Y. himself can really rap. He’s most certainly one to look out for in the future and this mixtape, which you can listen to from start to finish without skipping a track, is a must have.

Video to the left is of two tracks, one of them featuring Red Cafe. Download link for the mixtape is below, not one to be missed folks.

Lumidee/Styles P - End Of Time [Official Video]

Lumidee! Now that’s a name I never thought I’d hear again, don’t remember her? She had a massive one hit wonder. Anyway, seems like she’s back with a song that features the very credible Styles P. Check the video out to the left here.

Ace Hood - Superhigh Freestyle [Video]

Visuals for the Ace Hood version of Rick Ross’ track are here, click on this to find the audio.

Quickblast: XV - Squares

Another new track from XV, not that I’m complaining!

XV – Squares

Pill/Yung L.A./Wale - Level Above/Ima Ride

Two tracks here, the first a collabo between the three artists and the second a track that features just Pill. Liking both of these, it’s got that typical definitely not mainstream but also definitely not underground sound that seems to be my specialist subject!

Yung L.A. – Level Above ft. Pill & Wale

Pill – Ima Ride

Huey/Murphy Lee - Do Them Bad

Nice little track here by Huey who is slowly making a name for himself (go see the previous leak), his sophomore LP, Redemption, out September the 14th.

Huey – Do Them Bad ft. Huey

Quick Blast: Diggy Simmons-Thinkin' 'Bout U

Some fresh material from the promising newcomer. This should hopefully keep fans happy, as his mixtape Airborne has been delayed until next week. Looking forward to giving this a go, and of course looking forward to that mixtape. Hopefully the mixtape will really stamp Diggy as a talented kid.

Diggy Simmons-Thinkin’ ‘Bout U

J. Cardim, Ol' Dirty Bastard and N.O.R.E.

A line-up to set Murray’s heart racing, hopefully Cardim provides a nice beat for the rhymes from two heavy-hitters. As you can guess, I’ve not listened to this yet but Cardim has spun up some gems recently so I don’t expect this will let us down.

J. Cardim-Dirt McGirt ft. ODB and N.O.R.E.

B.o.B. Adidas Commercial [Video]

I’ve not really got a lot to say about this other than:

1) It’s good to see that corporations actually realise that a unique artist like B.o.B is marketable.
2) This advert is way too short.
3) I wish there were restaurants like this.
