Underground Hip-Hop Part 10

Woops. It’s been over 2 months since I dropped UGHH. It’s worth the wait though, as regular readers will know that these posts are your best shot of discovering some of the finest upcoming talent and catching a couple of established rappers along the way.

Click on to check out some new (ish) hip-hop of various styles and discover the next big thing. I warn you now, that I’ve been sitting on this stuff for a while so go easy on me if you’ve caught one or two tracks before.

Despite the massive backlog of potential material for this, I’ve tried to keep this shorter than previous episodes to make it a bit more digestable. Nice really aren’t I?

Kuniva-You Ready?
-D12 member Kuniva drops a pretty enjoyable track. Dope beat, and some decent raps over the top give me encouragment for his future projects.

City Haze-Lost In Tokyo
-Cracking track this one, really liking this RZA beat. It’s got some oriental influences, but with a driving hip-hop element throughout and Haze brings a slow, clear delivery to round off the track nicely.

SoulStice-The Melody
-I think I read on the email that this was set to be on a film soundtrack-nice work! It’s a decent track, with a fairly simple production and some nice flow changes.

Oddisee-San Fran, Khartoum, Chicago (3 tracks in one .zip)
-Liking this concept. Oddisee puts together different productions based on different towns/cities and the three I’ve heard/posted are all very good.

DaVinci-Trickle Down
-Pretty strong collection of tracks this has been eh? This continues the trend, with a really atmospheric and airy beat that lays a nice platform for DaVinci to spit some decent rhymes.

Intuition-Buzzkill ft. Slug (of Atmosphere)
-Dope track from top to bottom. The beat has a heavy acoustic influence, the hook is memorable and the verses are all really good. Been playing this for a couple of weeks, has great repeatability.

Bisco Smith-Vibrations
-An electro-laced production with a heavy bassline throws up something a little different. Bisco takes the beat on with a stuttered delivery which works quite well, and it’s quite a unique sounding track.

Georgia and Declaime-Endure (EthNick Remix)
-Quality beat with a neo-soul influence and some good delivery on top of it. I wasn’t too hot on the original, but I’m enjoying this remix a lot more.

The Knux-Floozy ft. Naledge
-Love this track. It’s fun and a very addictive listen, with a pretty old-school sounding beat. Really good flows from these guys too, and I’m a fan of this all-round.

Basic Vocab-Prescription
-Pretty nice hip-hop right here, with a nice track delivered with old-school sensibility. Liking the chilled nature of this, and it’s easy listening.
