R&B Fridays: Episode 12

Controversial picture choice? Maybe.

Click below for tracks from Chris Brown, Beyoncé, Johnta Austin, and more.

Brandy-Supreme
-Good all-round track here. With StarGate on the production, the beat comes with credentials and is definitely a good one. Brandy’s vocals are nice, and she delivers a memorable hook.

Chris Brown-Can’t Let You Go Ft. Pleasure P and Bow Wow
-Meh. This song is OK, but is the biggest abuse of AutoTune I have ever heard. It is 100% AutoTuned, which is incredibly annoying given that Chris and Pleasure P can both sing. Mainstream R&B fans will lap this up though. For the more attentive R&B fans amongst you, the sample used here is from Avant’s Sailing.

Milla-Ride (Like A Pony) Ft. The-Dream
-Milla is a new artist signed to The-Dream and acclaimed producer Tricky Stewart’s Redzone Entertainment. This is his first single, and could have a big effect in clubs and on radio.

Johnta Austin-Still Be Loving You
-Good old Johnta. He always delivers good R&B, largely due to his worryingly smooth voice. Yet another very likeable effort from Johnta.

Colby O’Donis-Talkin’ About Us
-Now this folks, is a very good song. I’ve supported Colby for a very long time, but felt that his album could have been better, and have been very divided on the new material released since then. This, however, goes some way to redemption. Great beat, good vocals, catchy hook.

Beyoncé-Slow Love
-Not a bad song, but not quite at the level of tracks like Halo. Worth a download for Beyoncé fans though, as it’s still better than a lot of R&B music.
