The Five One-LA Girl

Brand new track sent directly from The Five One for you after the click. Another great track, and another example of just how to throw a load of different genres into a pot and make it work.

In what has been a fairly slow week for good new music, I’m glad to say The Five One have come through and given me a great track for the rest of the weekend!

The main melody of the track is a sample that should be familar to most. It’s from Weezer’s Island In The Sun, and whilst to some of you that band/track may not familiar, I expect the actual song will sound familiar when heard. It’s a very summery track (as implied by the title…) and is great in this type of weather.

However, that’s just the melody/production. The Five One come in over the beat right, and do their own thing. The relaxed singing at the start fits nicely with the track, and flows nicely into the chorus, which borrows some lines from Kanye West’s RoboCop. (The more alert amongst you should be able to guess one of them from the track title!). Then, we get a little rapping toward the middle too: The switch of the delivery and flow pattern around 2:14 is a highlight for me, as it perfectly demonstrates the versatility and talent that these guys have.

The Five One definitely stamp their authority on this track, and elevate the original Island In The Sun into a heady mixture of genres, with some smooth singing, nice raps and sprinkling of the RoboCop lines throughout to keep you feeling familiar with the lyrics.

(To any Weezer fans: Sorry, but it’s true. I love the original, but this is pretty damn good.)

It’s up on ZShare, meaning you can preview before any downloads, and make your own judgement.  This track will become a summer favourite for myself, and I expect it will for you too.
