Flashback To…Last Week.

Jay-Z returned last week with a scathing tirade on AutoTune, causing a bit of a stir within the music world with the track D.O.A. (Death of AutoTune). Read more and download by clicking below:

Almost every artist has voiced an opinion one way or another on the track, with reactions ranging from total agreement, to labelling Jay-Z an ‘old man’. (Jim Jones…sigh). Trey Songz has even taken the instrumental and specifically aimed it at R. Kelly, as Kels’ latest mixtape relied heavily on the use of AutoTune.

The track is from the upcoming album The Blueprint 3, scheduled to drop on September 11th. This is not the first ‘official’ single however. ‘Off That’, featuring Drake is set to be the major single from the album, scheduled to be released in July. (update: Turns out the single was Run This Town, found here)

Anyway, for those of you who may have missed out on downloading the track, pick it up below and make your own opinions. (For the record, Jay did say in a recent interview that he thinks T-Pain, Lil’ Wayne and Kanye West are the only artists who should be using this right now, as they’re the only ones doing anything creative with it.)

There have been a few remixes and freestyles hovering about since, and I’ve included my pick of the bunch below from Royce Da 5’9″. (One of the most underrated rappers around right now? Hell yes.) Royce drops some relevant lines, including a reference to the Charles Hamilton-J Dilla controversy,  amongst other notables.

Enjoy:  Jay-Z-D.O.A. and Royce Da 5’9″-D.O.A. (Redemption)

Bonus track: Royce Da 5’9″-Bar Exam 3 (Hottest In The Hood Freestyle)
